sprint phone and have sprint program my phone number into it on my
current plan.
I do not have a contract I am on a month to month with my last contract
which expired 18 months ago.

Absolutely you can get a phone at Costco.
Also you could call up 866-762-0468 and say you're think of CANCELing
what incentives could they offer for you to take a new contract. Like
buying cars, don't take their first offer.

Yeah. You could lie.
As I posted previously this summer, I think there are a lot of people
who do this. It's dishonest, and just because people think Sprint are
screwing them over (which I'm not disputing!) doesn't make it OK.
I mean, I don't like the fact that my contract reset, but I can find
other, more honest ways to cause pain to SPCS in an effort to get them
to change the stupid policy.

So call them and say you are considering your options. Rational folks do it
out of habit and there is nothing dishonest about it. They don't have to
offer you anything but they probably will.

There is zero dishonest. SprintPCS would not allow it if they weren't
interested in retaining customers, which is important to them.
