What type of things do you run on your computer?
Also, could you list if possible all the parts in your system? Like cpu, optical drives, etc..

hehe, agressive, okey, listen up, lets say its a super computer (ofcourse it wouldn't have 40g or 384mb nor a geforce2 card), I'm asking in general, no need for computer compatibility.
And please dont talk to me as if I dont know nothn about computers, cause i do, anyhow, RAM also relates to chipset specifications, it borders the ammount of RAM, but i repeat, am askin in general.
and just to satisfy u Mark, Intel P4 1.7ghz, BIOS Intel HV84510A, motherboard Intel d845hv.

And satisfied i am
Rite so in general, id update da HD, because 384 is about enough ram to get u by! but 40gb will fill up too quicly for my liking, so id upgrade da HD!

If all your doing with the machine is playing games, and there's basically nothing else on it, I'd upgrade your ram first.
Most newer games require a minimum of 512 megs of ram.
Next I'd get a bit better graphic's card (at least a 128 megs on board - 256 would be perfect).
Then a bigger HD. Like I said, if all you do is game, the 40 gig should hold you for awhile. (unless of course you have multiple games on it like I do my gaming machine) then get a 120 gig.
Then again, I think 1.7 mhz is a bit low also and would upgrade that...but that's just me.

How much money are you willing to spend to upgrade? Depending on the type of game you play, I'd upgrade the videocard, ram, and HD in order.
But it honestly depends on how much money you want to spend and type of game you play...

im willing to spend enough for something to hold on more than a year or two
and i agree with you edimonk, upgrading videocard first, cause for example GTA SA needs geforce 3 minimum requierments, hard drive can be backed up by cds, external memories, blabla, ....
and ram will come in second place :P
but isn't buying a new pc the best solution ?:P
i guess u would agree right ?:P

Ah rite sorry, didnt see ur post sayin u need it mostly for games!
Then yeah, RAM and video card on the top of da list,
To hold ya for da next year r too.....id go up to 1gb of ram but older computers will usually only go to 896mb, but thats close enough!
Your rite, buying a new pc would be a waste of time and money! if you were looking for a new pc, your best way to go about it is, buy all da parts urself, and use ur old case, iv done this twice with my pc, saved me about 400 each time!
And like boss said 1.7ghz is a bit slow, but for a new processor (P4) you could be talking about 200-300.
What OS do ya run btw?

yeah i guess your right, I should buy a new dimm sdram or wutever, and thanks for that tip for buying all parts only, I think u have a point there :P
I run Windows XP Home Edition, its holding up great by the way ;p

Yeah its the cheapeast and most fun option!
You could also download TweakXP and do a few tweaks with that, it has video card tweaks in it too, and it makes a BIG difference to gaming!
I have it posted at this thread..
