Hello. I am new to this site. I am quite elderly and not very tech-minded so please keep any replies simple. Thank you.
I hope to visit Texas in September for a short driving tour. I had hoped to be able to take my mobile phone with me so that I could make calls to hotels, cab companies and the rental company in case anything goes wrong with the car. My phone is very basic, a Motorola G(8) but it is good for what I want. However, my provider in the UK is O2 and they tell me that my phone is incompatible with the US networks. But, at the same time they seem to think that I can get an international bolt-on to allow me to use the phone in Texas. This is very confusing. I have been exploring the possibility of buying a very cheap "dumb phone" such as the Nokia 110 4G, since I do not intend to use the phone for internet. I am told that 4G is now required for the States because the networks have shut down their 2G and 3G services.
So, what I'm asking is can anyone please clarify this situation for me? If it turns out that the best option is to get a cheap burner then I presume that I will also have to purchase a SIM card for use in the States. If so, how exactly does this work? I've seen a lot of these things advertised on Amazon and eBay for reasonable prices but are there any hidden activation charges that I need to be aware of?
Thanks in advance.
