Hey guys,
I'm sorry if these have been asked before, but I have a few questions about the Android 2.0 OS (specifically the Droid for Verizon) that I could not find exact answers for. For instance, is there a quick way to exit out of all running apps? Let's say I had the browser open, email open, and an instant messenger program. When I get back to the home screen, are the apps running in the background like a Blackberry? This could slow the device down if all these apps are running in the background.
Also, have you noticed the phone getting sluggish if left on for hours. I know that some smart phones have memory leaks in the OS or in certain apps, and a new OS such as Android 2.0 might have some memory kinks. Is there a way to have available device memory displayed? Will I have to worry about "quick pulls" .
Does the Droid come with an AOL Instant Messenger app straight from Verizon? Or will I need to go out and find one on the market? Any suggestions?
Any rumors when an extended battery will be available for the phone? It seems battery life is the main complaint about the phone.
I really appreciate it guys. Thanks

there's an APP call ADVANCE TASK KILLER (free) found in MARKET, When this App is turn on it will show all running APPS, you can check off with individual or all APPS you want to close. I would recommend leaving the DROID to open and close APPS as it seems fit to function. The DROID'S system will close and open APPS constantly, the APPS that should be close manually are WIFI, MAPS, GPS, and BLUETOOTH, they will drain a battery quickly if they are left running.

I would recommend a REBOT once in a while, but the DROID'S system will kill APPS to release MEMORY if more MEMORY is needed for another APP.

I haven't seen an AOL APP (standard) on the DROID, but there is an AOL MOBILE in the MARKET (free i believe)

I talked to a Verizon store manager a few days ago, and he said SOON but no actual date promised.

Re: A Few Questions About The Motorola Droid
Yes, the killing apps thing is the first thing many of us think about. However, after further review, Android is (supposedly) very good at killing apps when needed. It also doesn't have problems with apps running and slowing things down. Now, there are a few apps out there from 3rd party developers which have been reported to have memory leaks but they seem to be few and far between. I now don't worry about killing apps even though I have TasKiller installed.
