Well I manually did the update today. It was very simple...just google 2.2 update for DROID and you're sure to find something.
I like the new theme, a few new features, and a couple of other things. I do dislike some aspects of the new update.
Dislikes:
- New volume/vibrate/silent functionality. Under settings, you can customize these options now...all too much. You no longer have an option to just turn down your volume to silent or vibrate...you must choose between which one you want and leave it at that...or go into the system to change it each time...kind of a hassle...why can't I just turn my volume down until it says Vibrate and further to where it says silent...if you have this update, you'll see what I mean. If you know of any fixes, let me know.
- Woo-hoo...bluetooth voice commands are here...well kind of. They are absolutely horrible. There is no way of calibrating it to your voice, so it uses the same settings for everyone. I have an amazing bluetooth headset that works great on other phones, but not so much with my DROID. Here is the exact conversation I had with my DROID.
Pressed bluetooth voice command button on headset.
Phone: "Speak now"
Me: "Navigate to Starbucks"
Phone: pauses, says nothing momentarily.
Phone: "Call 958-758-2777"
Me: ends call immediately

- Haven't tried it yet, but it does come with the tethering via USB cable. I'm unsure if Verizon Wireless has any other fees associated and I really haven't tested it...but it says it's there. Go to "Wireless & Networks" and choose tethering. Also, it is possible that in the future updates, it may get the Hotspot ability I think because it acts prepared and even says Hotspot, but it's disabled.
- It's like a new phone with new interface. If I let one of my friends who liked playing with android 2.1...they'll have to relearn somethings. It's not completely different, but it just runs smoother, has 5 home screens, twitter is embedded, and has a new theme and new menus. You can now press and hold the home button and view several of your last used apps. It is just nicer laid out.
- Android Market revamped! It has a new sleek style and easier to use navigation. The general idea is the same except comments now have their own tab and some apps/colors have changed. Just a bit different, but I like it.
I highly suggest that you don't give up on your DROID! If you're not eligible for upgrade but want the DROID 2 or X...just wait. Check out 2.2 first and you'll probably be more satisfied and stick with the DROID versus going to the DROID 2 for $599.99 plus tax.
