I'm a Verizon customer and was just looking around to see how the other
carriers compared. Guess I can scratch Cingular off my list.

Well the grass is always greener. But if you look at the JD Power and
the Consumer Reports surveys, it'd be hard to find an area where
    Cingular is better.

By my reckoning Cingular's decision to declare personae non grata one out of
every 100 of its customers is alarming. Targeting college students away at
school runs the risk of these young people avoiding Cingular for the rest of
their lives, and warning others off as well. I guess it's things like this
that give Cingular its low Consumer Reports and JD Power ratings. I am a
satisfied Cingular subscriber, but I've warned others about the roaming
issue since it came up a couple of weeks ago. Perhaps the only thing
that'll save Cingular's reputation is if its competitors adopt the same
draconian roaming policy. On the other hand, maybe Cingular really can make
big profits by treating its customers like cattle in a feedlot?

I'm wondering if that 1% referred to the whole country, or just the
region that includes the affected area.

Do you really think 1% of their customers goes to school in Central
Michigan, or that 1% makes most of their calls out of the Cingular
    network?

Where did you get that number? I've read that 86% of all statistics
is made up on the spot.

The report was unclear. They said that the number of people that are
making more than 50% of their calls off-network was 1%. But it wasn't
clear if that was across the whole country, or if they were referring
just to the region in question. I'd guess that it's the latter, based on
the the individual that was quoted.

I sympathize with your skepticism, Marty, so do your own research. I
suggest you begin by calling 1-866-775-8936. Ask whoever answers what
Cingular's rate of excess off-network usage is. From there you can pursue
the truth according to your own lights. Perhaps you'll let us know what you
    discover.

Actually, I'm glad they have that policy, since I use Cingular. I wouldn't
want to have to pay for people that cause them to lose money paying other
    companies' roaming charges.

But thanks for answering my question so well.
