So my v710 is having problems charging the battery. When i plug my
phone in, after 3-6 seconds it says "cannot charge". i have tested this
with 2 different chargers, when i remove the battery and power on phone
it has quick glitches and powers off/on very quickly. my guess would be
the power contacts on the phone are damaged or dirty? what are my
    options?
    thanks

This is a CONSTANT problem with the connector on Moto v-series (and E815)
    phones.
    There are really 2 issues:

o Connector jiggles and loses contact

o Error message "Cannot charge". No helpful info on screen!! Probably,
the phone senses the wrong voltage

Bottom Line: It's not caused by dirty contacts or a bad powerpack. You have
just got to keep trying to remove and reattach the power... Over and over
and over again. It's very frustrating.

Lousy connector technology from an otherwise great phone company. In the
past, it has not been enough to make me switch brands, but thank G-d Moto
has finally switched to a mini USB connector.

This is absolutely correct! Just keep trying and hopefully you'll get it to work.

I had a 710 and an 815 and experienced the same exact problem with both.

    Good luck!!

I lick the three pins on the plug before connecting it to the phone. The
phone contacts are gold and unlikely to corrode because of the moisture,
but the moisture helps make the contact often.

Sometimes blowing on the contacts on the phone helps. Cleaning them with
contact cleaner and a brush also will help, as long as the contacts are
not hopelessly damaged. Note that on some of these phones, the contacts
become broken between the connector and the PCB in the phone. the V270C
    was especially bad.

Thank goodness Motorola has switched to a Mini-USB connector, though
this has a downside as well, as it no longer works in the professional
    hands free car kit.
