I just received this Sprint PCS testimonial in my email, and didn't exactly
know how to respond with the best advice (typos have been fixed):

Hi Peggy,

Can't help you with the Sprint phone directly from experience, but I can
offer you a couple of options.

You have two choices:

1. If it is UNlocked you can use it with Alltel or Verizon or US Cellular or
any CDMA carrier. If it is LOCKED you can only use it with Sprint. You
would have to call Sprint and ask them if the phone is locked only to US
Sprint or not.

2. The other option is selling it on E-Bay. There are local stores here
(forget the store's name) that sell items posted on E-Bay.. There is one
here in Greenville, SC , but I have not been to it. Or you can just sell it
on E-Bay yourself. That would probably be the best approach.

How many minutes do you need a cellphone for each month? If its over 60
minutes a month, you are probably better off with post paid plans (meaning
plans requiring a contract and a bill each month).

Prepaid phones have a high cost per minute rate, but if you only need 30
minutes or less each month, then its less expensive to go prepaid. Prepaid
plans don't have contracts, so you can open an account today, and deactivate
it 2 weeks later with no penalty other than loss of airtime you added to the
phone and did not use.

I have TracFone(s) because of their free airtime promotions, and because
they utilize all the major US carriers, i.e., Cingular, Verizon, Alltel,
T-Mobile, etc. (depending on the model of the TracFone).

There are 100 different companies offering prepaid plans. There are some
new prepaid plans that are offering rates as low as 10 cents a minute, but
you have to buy $30 worth airtime each month.

Virgin prepaid uses the Sprint network, so you *might* be able to get a
Virgin prepaid account and keep the same phone. If I were you I would call
Virgin and ask them. But on the other hand, now I remember you saying
Sprint coverage was not good where you plan to use the phone. So forget
this idea.

I would recommend you end up with a phone that uses either Verizon or Alltel
or Cingular/GSM networks. You can do this with a post paid or prepaid
plan, depending on the company you go with.

Sorry if I sound like I am rambling. Hope this is good advice!
