RAZR V3XX - MPT Motorola Phone Tools SMS Issues

So I have a Motorola RazrV3XX, and Motorola Phone Tools.

Everything works fine with both the phone and the software, except that i do not retrieve all my 'sent' text messages; all my received text messages, and some of my sent text messages do get pulled off my phone, and into the software successfully.

I have searched high and low on the interwebs and have found many folks with the same problem, but no explanations, or solutions.

I suspect that for some reason MPT will not pull the messages because it does not 'recognize' them. (It pulls some of them over successfully because it 'recognizes' some of them, though?)

So here are questions:

1) what do I need to do to make MPT recognize my sent messages and retrieve them
2) what else can I do to get the software to retrieve all my sent text messages
3) is there any choice other than Motorola Phone Tools to use with my phone?
