With i930's release right around the corner, I still have not made my decision if I am willing to sign another contract to get the phone. I like how it looks and stuff, only thing better could have been the resolution on the camera, and if it included bluetooth. However I heard the i870 which might come out in november will have all included, plus better resolutions. I just dont like how the silver plate looked like on the i870.

    What is everyone else doing?

Hold out until next year (only 3 months)! The cdma/Iden hybrids will be out. Nextel has and is drasticlly changing the upgrade program and you will not be able to renew your contract again if you buy either phone now. The hybrids will do sprint/verizon on cell and iden on 2-way. So that = great nationwide service with great internet speeds and more system features plus fast 2-way walkietalkie.

Besides the i930 and i870 are going to be in 2 differnt leagues. The i930 is a smart phone (PDA) that runs windows and is an iden/gsm hybrid with worldwide roaming capabilites (won't help in the USA). It will no doubt be costly. I have not seen any price points on it yet but compare the smartphones on all other carriers $$$..

the i870 is a soup'd up i850 with an mp3 player built in.
I did hear for sure the i930 will be out 10/5/05 and the i870 will be 11/1/05.

What is a CDMA/Iden Hybrid ? Do you mean, when they come out I should just drop Nextel / Sprint service, and go to Verizon when those phones are out ? Please clarify this for me, tnx lol!

no the new phones will use sprints cdma service on the cellular and nextels iden on the 2-way. Sprint has roaming agreements with verizon that you can use their towers. So the new hybrid phones will have the traditional fast nextel 2-way with kick-ass cellular & sprint is really strong in the data/internet side so they will have great data features also.

When can I expect these phones to come out, will they have all the neat features , ie. cameras / memory cards, bluetooth, mp3 , etc etc, and price range? Is this like the future-i960 or something lol ?

i was told by both the sales and service channel 1st quarter of 2006. I didn't get a price or style. They said Motorola has been working on it for some time now even prior to the news of the merger (which on the service end was hushed around last year). I didn't mention it because I never thought Verizon would have let it happen. I thought for sure they would have gobbled up sprint because there systems are much more compatable.

Nextel/Sprint are looking to get as many people of the cellular iden system and focus iden for 2-way only. The iden system is a lot more congested and has a lot less capacity then the cdma. They are looking in 2008 to have a new super fast ev-do service that will replace the iden system all together.

i just purchased a nextel i850 and the reception isn't as good as my verizon phone....if i keep my nextel i850, could i upgrade to the new phone when it comes out? i would love to keep nextel for the 2-ways but i need better reception and if they will be using the vwerizon towers then that would give me the best of both worlds...any price range on the new phones? does nextel have like a trade in program where i could trade my i850 in for the newer phone and they would lower the price of the newer phone?

the newest phone, i930 which comes out either today or thursday is

    499$ retail
    429.99 1 year contract
    349.99 2 year

idk about trade in, but i think you might be able to, just go back to the place where u got ur i850 and ask to trade it in for the neweer one, if its in brand new condition.

no the 930 doesn't use verizon. The i930 release date is the 5th.
Nextel has a 30 day no questions asked return as of right now. So you can trade it in with no problems if you are under 30 days. If you are over 30 then as it stands now you can trade it in 1 time in a 2 year period. After the 1 time you must pay outright pricing.

The 930 is way out dated by now. I would get the 870 cause the MP3 will come in handy for me. I would not hold my breath on either of those release dates.

So waht can we expect to see for the new phones that are coming out in 2006? I love the idea of the i930 but it is soo outdated already. I love the palm treo and wish it was compatible with the PTT feature then it would be the best phone for me. I need more info if possible would like to know what is in the pipeline.

    Thx.

Just like the idea of having a mp3 on a phone. No need to carry around a phone and a mp3 player. It would help me out alot cause i always have to carry around my phone and my mp3 player cause i use it alot. Now battery like i am sure would be the only problem.

Lol, well Yeah the idea of having an mp3 on the phone is cool. but its definitaly going to be a bettery killer. And whats the amount of storage on the phone? 32mb ? 64mb ? Enough for like 10-15 songs that are good quality ( 192KB)
