the 9000 bold is a neat design. the 9500 seems to me like a joke. why is rim trying to copy apple? i mean come on, the phone looks like a fat iphone. Although i like the BOLD, i do think it looks like the moto Q9.

    Wheres the creativity RIM?

I think bold is different with Iphone, it's as same curve, but intergate GPS and look very manly,

well, the GPS is a plus, but the AT&T curve has the GPS already integrated, so no news there . I agree though, manly looking lol.

I'm totally over how these companies are selling exclusively to certain service providers. I would think they would sell more if it was more available. I can't get the same deal at Sprint than I do with T-Mobile for all the services I have.

I think it's more the cell carriers that want this. They want to offer something no one else has, making the choice to be with them, one of the reasons you buy the phone they have. Make their version, just a little different and they hope you will nibble and then bite. At least in the US/Canadian markets.

If you could get the same phone at any carrier, same features no difference, then the only difference would be the cost of the service, because no one in their right mind would go with a phone that was $400+ bucks if they could get the same phone next door for $300. And you know that the companies can't figure out a way to get customers when everything is exactly the same.
But it would certainly be nice to be able to go from company A to company G and not have to worry about having to get a new phone, because the one you have would work everywhere.

Nope their not copying Apple, they are just making a touch screen device. Heck Sony had theirs first (touch screen), was Apple copying Sony? Touch screens are for a certain market. Some people like them, some people need them. Some people won't ever own one. For many people a larger form factor is what they want.

I'd buy a Bold over a 9500 or iPhone/Samsung Armani/LG Prada. Having had a few touch screen game systems, and a tablet pc for short time, I know what to expect from a touch screen device and won't be hopping on the wagon for a touch screen for now.

I've been keeping my eyes open for a new phone and this 9500 has definitely caught my eye. I know what you mean by touch screens being for a certain market. I know it seems to be diverging towards touch screens being the standard, but for my preference based on me using my friend's touch screen, phones, I'd rather have an actual QWERTY keyboard for conducting business. I know it's a "ooh" thing to roll into a meeting with an iPhone, but I didn't feel as efficient typing with the keyboard. maybe i just need some time with it.

Don't know personally about the "ooooh" factor when going to a biz meeting, since all the biz meetings I have attended people actually paid attention and put their phones away on vibrate or off. Now breaks and lunch it's another story! But then when it comes to me, I'm not much of a "What does the other guy have?" kind of person. I'll just buy it if I like the looks of it, play with it for a weekend and return it if it does not fit my needs.

Yup the touch screens for typing for me anyway, is just not there yet, no matter how a set the calibration for the keys. Flipping through menus, pictures and all is nice, but not very helpful to me. Now they make a phone that knows what I'm thinking and calls the folks I want to call, and gives me a ever changing slide show of my dreams and I'm sold!

Don't get me started on the American need to "out do / perform" the next guy. Could you seriously imagine a world where people focused on their own lives. Which brings me to the unnecessary Prop 8. Sorry, that must of been some pent up aggression with our society... how did this phone thread bring that out?!
