I am a bit confused. I am on a family plan with t-mobile and wanted to get a new phone for my son before going to college. The phone number he has was not eligible for a good upgrade so I just upgraded my cell phone number as it was eligible and then put his sim card into the new phone. I was told by the guy at the T-Mobile store that this was ok to do as it didnt matter which phone used the SIM card, that the upgrade was based on the phone number. I submitted the rebate with Tmobile and now for the second time they are declining the rebate. The first time was because they said they did not received the upc with the rebate (I had proof that it was sent so they resubmitted the rebate.) Another letter arrived saying it was declined again due to the wrong rebate form was submitted, again I proved I sent the correct one (they said it must have been keyed in wrong). Then was told that the phone number that I was upgrading was not using the new phone that was purchased. I thought it did not matter which phone the SIM card was in...... I have asked others who have upgraded in the past and done the same thing and no one has ever had this come up before. Is this a new thing with T-Mobile? How do they know what phone is being used with the SIM card?

simple solution. go to a "corporate owned" store and tell the manager to correct this problem. if you did the upgrade at an "authorized dealer", you are prabably SOL...

no, it SHOULDNT matter what phone simcard is in, it should just matter WHICH # had the contract extended in their system...

    good Luck

True, it doesn't matter which line uses the phone. You could purchase that phone with your phone line, and sell it on ebay if you wanted to. However, the rebate form does state that the phone has to be used at least once on your T-Mobile account prior to rebate validation. If your son's cell phone is in his own name, you will not get the rebate form.

However, if your son's cell phone line is under your name. Then you can call the rebate department or customer care and tell them that your son is the one using the phone and that the rebate from states: "To be eligible for the rebate, your handset must be used on your T-Mobile account at least once prior to rebate validation, and your account must be active at the time of rebate processing."

Click on the link to see the rebate form. It is #3 under the CONDITIONS.

    Re: New T-Mobile Upgrade problem

Thanks for the information concerning my upgrade rebate problems. I have been a T-Mobile customer for several years and have never had an easy time receiving the rebates. All of the phone lines are part of the Family Plan and are in my name. I have never had a good experience when it comes to receiving rebates with T-Mobile. Everytime I have filled a rebate, whether for a new phone or upgrade, I have made sure I submitted the correct documentation and followed their requirements but each time I have been declined for some reason or another. I ALWAYS have to call and get it resubmitted before I can finally receive my rebate, several months after filing. I am getting extremely frustrated as I have been a good loyal customer for years but if these practices keep up, I may have to change companies when my contracts are up.
