So, basically I am trying to pick my first phone, but obviously I've used cell phones in the past. I live in Canada, Ontario, Ottawa area, and I know I want to go through Telus as my service provider.

My main concern is the phone itself. I'm just baffled from the information on the net, so hoping anyone can just give me some specific advice.
Just looking for a phone that, primarily can receive audio and send audio well with and text well with, (qwerty keyboard is must, so no sudo qwerty's or whatnot) and a good UI preferable smooth and fast. I would like (but it doesn't have to be) a phone that has a good physical length, since I just got work and its mostly manual labor, like construction work and I usually have my phone in my pocket, I'm usually doing a lot of moving around and bending my legs with a phone in my pockets, I don't want a too large of a phone like some of the android phones, but I'm not too concerned with this problem as I want in general a good phone and this is main priority. And then I would want a gps function. other then that I don't really know what else I need in a phone.

So you can give me suggestions on what I listed, also suggestions on the best smart phones, and android phones, (my friend just got an android Nexus, the google phone, which I kinda like but I haven't looked to much into it, but obviously this phone goes against my concern with length of the phone and size but whatever) phones that will have more than what I talked about. also if you could direct me to some reading material that you could educate me with i'd be glad to read up to help finalize my decision.

I'm quite a newb in this. so any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

l would suggest going to the telus website and looking up specific phones. Everyone will have their own opinion on which phone is best. Personally l prefer the androids over anything else. Very fast and smooth UI, lots of apps and good camera. The hardest decision for most people is which service provider to choose from but it seems youv'e already made that decision.
