Re: So who has the Droid already?
From what i heard from a verizon employee today, the droid went puff today, there were seven people at verizon stand at 7am-8am, and it didn't get any better as the day went on, quiet through out the day, nothing close to the Storm's release. will see what tomorrow brings.

Re: So who has the Droid already?
I do not have it (plan on getting it soon) but I've spoken with many reps.
Today I was in the store (about 7:30-8:00PM) and it was busy. They still had a line outside because the fire marshal said a max of 65 people in the store at any given time...it looked like they exceeded that.
Our store actually began to sell the actual phones outside...to existing customers. Customers in need of a telephone number and service went inside. They had a fancy portable touch screen cash register outside making all transactions. They maintained the indoor/outdoor separation until about 2PM.
They have been busy and served over 6,000 customers. Let's put that into perspective: The town itself has 20,000. So they serviced about 1/5 of the town!
I went in like I said...played with the phone and a store representative right next to me was playing with the Eris...she was all jumpy and excited. She used the Google Maps and pulled up her house and keep saying "That's soooo cool!". She was the greeter. Every time a customer entered, the first response was "are you interested in the Droid today?"
They actually did not sell out of phones, like they expected. When I arrived, they had 15 copies left. They said they would be staying open until 10PM, instead of 9, because they didn't see the crowd coming to an end yet...

Re: So who has the Droid already?
In the NJ/NYC area here, it was quiet, i know a mall store and highway store that EXPLODED with the STROM, i mean you couldn't get in, and everyone in the area ran out of phones, but this release was quiet.
I'm going to the Mall today to see for myself, i expect it to be a BUSY saturday, will see. I think the DROID is to big to heavy, they shouldn't of put the slide keyboard on it, the phone should of been model after the DARE.
I think the DARE is a little big, a cell phone of this capability should be as thin as possible, carrying it in a suit jacket/sport jacket should go unnoticed by the carrier, big bulk phones is not a good feel or good look. I will look at the Droid and hold it, hopefully today.
... and phone companies...STOP FORCING ME TO TAKE DATA PLANS!!!!

Re: So who has the Droid already?
Hello. I picked up my Droid yesterday morning. I am currently working in Medford Oregon and arrived at one of two stores in town at 7am. Like a couple of respondents before me stated, the store I shopped in was not busy. I was one of maybe 5 customers inside at the time. This was fine by me of course. I hate crowds.
Anyways, the Droid is certainly the best phone I have purchased to date. It replaced my XV6800 as by coincidence, my new for two eligibility started the very day of the launch. I still have a Touch Pro for my 2nd line and a Touch for my Sprint line. I picked the Motorola phone because I personally like a physical keypad on my phone. Add to that a faster processor and Android v2.0 and it wasnt much of a decision over the Eris, although I did enjoy playing with the Eris while waiting for my assigned rep to come talk to me.
I really like playing around with this phone. It's fast, the interface is clean and the screen is huge. The turn by turn navigation with this phone will be used extensively as I travel a lot for my work (I am a cell site technician). I have already tested location by wi-fi at my hotel, quite impressive. I wasnt too keen on creating a google account, but it is kind of necessary for this device. As such the way google updates contacts with the phone is rather nice. Plus, thanks to your tip on importing contacts from outlook, I was able to import all 577 contacts to my Droid (an accumulation of doing my line of work for 8 years in markets all over the nation). A BIG thank you there because I wasnt sure how I was going to accomplish that without Windows Mobile and Activesync.Last edited by Despairyll; 11-07-2009 at 01:01 PM.

I submitted a realtime review, i don't know if you received it for review, and whether you'd like to post it in reviews, or in another thread category.
As i did for the Dare i'd like to do the review in realtime as i use it...

Re: So who has the Droid already?
They actually have a DROID phone that might have matched what you're expecting in the common Motorola DROID.
They have the HTC Droid Eris which has almost (or all of) the features of the Motorola Droid but it lacks the keyboard and is exclusively touch. It launched the same day and is $100 cheaper.
