Here I sit waiting for 2.2...

Well, I'm waiting for the update for my Motorola DROID.

When 2.1 was released, I was able to download something from the internet and upload it to my SD card and do the manual system folder thing and then there it was...2.1 I haven't seen anything like that for 2.2, despite it being right around the corner. Have any of you? I saw one thing for rooted users that did a similar process but it said it caused you to use WiFi.

Something interesting I found is that for Nexus One users with 2.2, supposedly they'll be able to begin using their phones as a hotspot, like the DROID X. I wonder if that'll be true for DROID users with 2.2.

So...is there anything you know that I may not?

I've heard so many rumors it's insane. Latest was that "according to Verizon" Droid is getting 2.2 "start of August". I'll believe it when it happens. I have also heard from many sources about:
Hotspot ability
Better battery life
Faster OS operation
Running from SD card
Flash support when Adobe gets around to it (or just use Skyfire now)

and other stuff, I'm drawing a blank... guess we'll find out eventually!

I got my update this week... woot!

Here's what I've found so far-

5 home screens (yea!)
Bottom of each home screen has phone / all programs / internet buttons always there
Press bottom L & R corners to move between home screens
Google translate is installed
Allows auto-updating of apps
Cosmetic changes on "all apps list"
Voice recogntion, even on my bluetooth
Manage applications window(s) more robust, useful

anything else I missed?

Hopefully the new devices being shipped 8/31 will include this update. Can't wait for mine to arrive ... but I'm being patient ... :-)
