Hey. I heard that there was an updated firmware for the v551. i currently have version R47_G_08.17.0FR_01 and I heard that the update increases battery life and has a Vibe and Ring feature instead of the Vibe then Ring. So how do i go about updating the firmware?
Thanks for any help you can give me in advance...
edit: Srry, i kindof already posted this question in another thread but i thought that if I put it in a new thread more people would see it.

i called a "company store location" and they said they couldn't do it. I found out that you can call the cingular warrenty number (i dont know what it is off the top of my head) and if you say that the battery life is bad they will send you a new phone with the firmware update.
But is there a way to do this manually? If i were to purchase the USB cable from motorola and got the Mobile Phone Tools, where would i download the files for the firmware update?ĦĦĦTHE WORLD IS MY BURRITO!!!

Phone number for cingular Warranty is 1-800-801-1101. Just received my updated phone with the latest firmware loaded (R472_G_08.18.16R_0A) as I had one main issue with my old phone (purchased in january). Dropped calls....big problem as with conversations over 5 minutes, the signal would just drop randomly, causing the call to be dropped. This wasn't particularly ideal for a business Cell phone.
Call the number, easy to get a replacement and it's at your door in 2-3 days (unless you want to pay for s&h). So far, the dropped call issue has gone away (i'm on day 3 using the new phone) and i'm impressed with the battery life (so far only one bar down and a lot of talk time).
Just remember, you have to be within 1 year of when you purchased the phone originally.

I did the same thing as greenwall. I called that number and got my replacement phone but they sent it without a new battery or even a back. I could also tell that it wasn't a new phone...it was a referbished phone (srry i cant *****). So I called them back and asked them what was up and they said "that's how we ship them all out". But I know that's not true because my friend just did the same thing and he got a whole new kit (new battery, new charger, a back cover...comes in the box that you originally get your phone in). So i told him that and he said that he doesn't know why it could be unless it was his 2nd replacement phone.
So i asked, "if i got another replacement phone it wold come with a new kit?" He said "yes, but there has to be something wrong with the phone for us to exchange it again". So i hung up and called back to get someone different on the line. He asked me what was wrong with the phone so i just made up a story about the phone having problems reading my SIM card. So he said that he would send out a new phone with the kit. This guy was nice and even gave me free overnight shipping. (This just goes to show all you ppl that think cingular support is bad....it depends on who you get on the line....if they aren't helpfull, or they start reading you stuff from the manual....call back to get someone else.)
So i got my new kit yesterday and the battery is much better. I also like that the updated firmware allows you to select "vibe & ring" in addition to "vibe then ring".
One thing that i have a question about is that on this updated phone, when i'm not using the internet, there is this symbol that lookes like an E instead of the weird blue and white square things. Anyone know what this E symbol is?ĦĦĦTHE WORLD IS MY BURRITO!!!

I have a cingular branded phone that I bought, but I got it unlocked and am using with T-mobile. Will the cingular warranty still cover it? I am getting very low talk time like 30-45 minutes only.

i doubt it. t-mobile might...but i'm not completely sure
