So my bro gave me a v180 that is water damaged (at least thats what the guy at our store said) and I think the indicator thing on the battery shows it. The only problem with it is that when you call someone, they can't hear you. Everything else works perfect, including you hearing the other person. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? It would be great to use this instead of my nokia 6010.

Well, if it was me, I would use the 6010 because of all the bad things I hear about the V180. Now as for fixing it, it sounds like the mic is out, try seeing if you can find someone that sells cellular phone parts and maybe if you get a hold new mic it will work.

Is this a very complicated fix? I know a little about electronics, but I've never done much phone-related. Also, where could I find a mic?

To tell you the truth, it would probably be easier to just go on ebay and order a refurbished one for like $30.

The main problem with water damaged electronics, is you never know how long they were powered before the battery was removed, and how fast it was dried out. Most when dropping a phone or PDA in water, just grab it out and shake it a few times and try to see if it still works. The best thing to do is get the batteries out of the device ASAP and get as much water out of it as possible using shaking, compressed air and low heat, and NOT getting power to it until you are sure that all the water has evaporated.

Since you don't know how long this phone stayed wet (if it was in the first place). And it's a free phone, it might be worth at least fiddling with it, but doubt you'll want to pay whatever it will cost to have it looked at, let alone repaired.

But a non working phone with problems caused be possible water shorting things out, might zap your SIM card, even if it's dried out now, so unless you have a back up sim card ready to go, you may be risking the card and the abilty to use that Nokia 6010. So make your choices based on what could happen if you use you only active sim on hand.
