For the most part, I agree with the general idea that it's okay to mod if it is done tastefully. As for how much is okay to spend, well, that's up to the owner. True car people know that you never get your money back on the mods, everyone hopes to find that one guy just like you that will appreciate and value everything you have done. Good luck with that. So far, I have about 1700.00 wrapped up in my truck. I chipped the ECU, added dual catback exhaust, cool air intake, tonneau cover, window tint and system. The next step is new seats and the full console from an Expedition to replace the bench.

I think the best way to mod your car depends on what you are going to do with it. Like for me, I'm trying to increase my 0-60 time (don't care about top speed since it maxes out well over 160) so some simple horse power add ons are needed. But I also want to increase the "rich-ness" look of the car. IE, bigger rims, but not too big, gotta be conservative, drop the car just a bit, but still conservativly, give the windows a bit of tint, now this is where I got max, the darker legally go, the better. And last but not least are side skirts, they make the car look lower and give it a really squared off look.

I'm trying to make my Aurora look like a gangsta car in a sense, I'm trying to make it look like it is worth more than it really is. Tinting the windows and putting some big silver rims is all you need sometimes.

Well, most people mod as a hobby, it is something they like to do and plus it attracts the ladies unless it is one of those half done crap cars I see alot around so cal.

I mod because it's a hobby....if you're going to look at your checkbook and cry, then I would definitely stay away from modding. Especially when you step up to NSX territory, where the parts are so expensive.

depends what you want...i have put about 4000 in my BMW 328i...and for that much more i could have gotten an E36 M3.

I think it really depends on why the car is being modded, and who's doing the modding. Body kits are great if the person doing the the work knows what their doing and how to make the kit as custom as possible for the car it's being installed on.

I mean who wants a kit, that the other 3000 people in a 20 mile area has?

Better IMHO to put the money into a custom paint job and enhancements that will help the car's performance, fuel useage and maintenance.

It depends. Body kits will help IF they replace your original bumpers and are lighter. Generally, it's not worth it unless you're really into racing. I don't support it at all and with Tokyo Drift coming out, expect lots more of it...Of course you can't say that the car is wrong for having a 5 foot wing while being FWD. It can only be called rice if the owner claims that made it faster. It might have been made to be a show car, no matter how tacky. I'd rather save up some money and get something that helps my car, such as boring the engine, a new exhaust, turbocharging it, etc...

Basically if you want to modify your car you need set goals. Do you want your car to look fast, be fast, or both?

This is a very very expensive game if you really want your car to look good. Quite honestly unless you really have a lot of cash to burn it's not really worth getting into serious modifying.
What he said, I tried it for a bit and quit at 3k very expensive

I believe this is a good example of why "modders" are often looked down upon...

Not that Geos are nice cars, but this is a terrible thing to do to one.
