    Dear All,

I've got a Nokia 7250i on Orange contract, and am now on my 3rd (yes,
you did hear right!) handset - getting dropped telephone calls (in v.
good service area) + various messages like "Insert SIM card" and "SIM
card rejected" come up for some reason.

Orange have now (reluctantly) sent me a new SIM card, so I'm eagerly
awaiting delivery to see if this will sort out the problem. Orange did
try to charge me 17 pounds for this service, but I've only had the
phone for a month, and have had only problems with it since the start!

As far as I'm concerned, paying 30 quid a month on OVP200 with Orange
is a waste of money, if I can't get a phone which works and provides
me with the ability to have consistant telephone conversations (and
not being cut off all the time).

Has anyone else had any experience with this problem on the 7250i?
I've cleaned the SIM and battery contacts just in case. Let's hope
that Orange's replacement SIM can resolve the problem.

All I can see now is that if this doesn't work, I will need to have a
working phone before I go on holiday, hence will attempt to get my
phone exchanged for another model ie. SE T610. Is the SE T610 a
reliable phone to use on the Orange network?

    Kind Regards,

    Rob

I got myself and my girlfriend a new 7250i about a month ago. Both have had
no problems at all, no strange messages, no rebooting, no dropped calls. The
only exception to this was that on one occasion when I was flying through
menus extremely fast with shortcuts, when I went back to the main screen it
had an orange "?" instead of my background pic. This disappeared when I
turned the phone off and on again.

I read a post from another person in the group a couple of days ago
describing EXACTLY the same problem that you had on an Orange 7250i. It may
be a bad batch of phones, or a bad batch of SIMs. Let us know if your new
    SIM fixes the problem.

    Think that'd be me then...

I had FOUR handsets from Phones4U - currently (fingers crossed) it's all
    good.

I suspect there's also a batch of dodgy phones - just bad luck I suppose

Most likely its the SIM problem. Happened to me with a 8K sim card in my
3310 for a few times. Changing to other 8k/32/64k sim cards solves it..

I've got a Nokia 7250 and a Motorola T720i, both of them are on T-Mobile.
When sitting in my house I get no signal on the Nokia yet the Motorola T720i
    is at full strength.

How can one tell (from the SIM card itself?) what memory size (in KB) the
    SIM card is?

Differs from country to country...usually u can tell Gemplus 64K (aka
supersims) because 64K is printed along with the serial number of the SIM..

8K are usually older generation SIMs with 100/140 phonebook and 10/15 SMS
storage.. and doesnt have the SIM services menu.

    32/64 K have 250 phonebook and 20/30/40SMS storage

Cheers for that. I got a T-Mobile SIM from fwdcellular.com (FT 750 tariff)
which is 200 names and XYZ SMS. When I stick it in my phone (6310i), after
putting in my PIN code, it accepts it and starts up immediately, whereas my
Orange SIM (90 names & 10 SMS spaces) hangs for about 10 seconds after
typing my PIN code and hitting the "OK" button or pressing "#".

I am sure this has something to do with the memory capacity of the SIM card.

Well, older SIMS may be 5V type too... which causes slowdown.. but current
SIMs are all 3V. I notice the same effect with a 3310.. the newer, bigger
    sims are faster ;-)

    Hi Adam,

Orange were persistantly trying to replace my phone, but I managed to
get them to send me a new SIM card (which is of the new profile type
which includes more space for storage of contacts on it), and so far
(touch-wood!) the phone now seems to be working OK.

    Kind Regards,

    Rob

I was getting the sim card messages on my first 2 7250i's, a brand new sim
card didnt fix it for me. My third phone has been working with no
problems for a week though. The only difference between this one and the
last 2 is that the manufacturing date is 10/2003 instead of 08/2003. You
can check when yours was made by looking at *#war0anty# (*#92702689#)
