    Hey all,

I'm trying to get some info for my mother-in-law.
She ran her motorola through the washer - sounds like it's basically toast.

Her contract is only a few months old.
Cingular told her ~$250 for replacement. That's just not reasonable.

Is it as simple as buying an unlocked phone off ebay, swapping the sim card and she's up and running?

I know she won't want to mess with 10 phone calls back and forth to cingular to make it work right.

Help please. I'd like to have some solid info to relay to her.

Yes, it is that easy. She can get either a cingular branded phone, or an unlocked gsm phone with the 850-1900 mhz bands. It can have more bands, but it needs those two.

Yep its just that easy, another thing you might want to try if you don't want to do the ebay thing, is you can head out to wal-mart and buy a Cingular GoPhone. its a cingular phone just with out the frills of their other phones, but a lot cheaper. just put the sim card in the new phone and poof your done. Let us know what happens.

yeah, tell her to shop around. she can probably find a good deal on an unlocked phone & slap the sim card in.
