Help with LG8300 mp3 ringtones

alright, i apologize if someone has already asked this, but I couldn't find anything. I have a verizon LG8300 that plays mp3s and all that nonsense, have the verizon usb cable and all that, and I can successfully load mp3s and wav files onto it. Question is, does anyone know how to turn these into ringtones, either on the phone or on the computer? Not feeling like using their stupid Get It Now and paying through the nose for a limited selection of ringtones that doesn't even have the stuff that i listen to.

Step by step instructions please, I'm a newb. Thanks in advance.
