Hi, i am trying to decided between two phones both by motorola. In the web research some articles say the v505 has an external photo caller id display, yet others dont mention it and the external display looks too small to show a persons photo as caller id. the v220 looks good as well. I like the idea of the external photo caller id of the 550, but am really unsure if it even has it. If i can hear from people who have either one and how they like it that would be great. most interested in the earpiece section volume (im hard of hearing and my current phone is not loud enough for me to hear the caller speak in most cases.) also would like to hear about ringer options on both and any techical difficulties anyone has had with either one. We have never had a camera phone either so opinions on quality and ease of use would be nice.

I have the Motorola V505 and there is no external CID. I do like the phone though. Pictures are good quality, more feature than I need and reception seems to be better than most phones I've had.

    re lucky

    Hi Lucky,
Thanks for the reply. Does the external window show just the time, or will it flash the name and number of the incoming call as well. Wasnt sure if you meant no photo id by "Cid" or no external caller id of any type. thanks! you've been really helpful.

I initially purchased the V220, but exchanged it for the V505

    Negatives of the V220

    - Screen is too small
    - Fonts are too large for small screen. Can't shrink it like the older Motorola phones
    - LCD is not as crisp as the V505
    - No voice recorder
    - Calculator is not as easy to operate (important to me)

After purchasing the V505, I would not go back. Even told someone at the AT&T store today to spend the extra money because it's worth it. The bluetooth is nice also.

The external caller ID does show the name of the person who is calling, or the number if they are not in your phone book. You can also assign a special ring tone to each number in your phone book to identify them before you even look at the phone.

Go with the 505, it's a better phone overall.
