Re: Rogers MP3 Ringtone Lock Bypass and Workarounds
I just bought an LG TU915 from Rogers (the Canadian-LG ripoff of the iPhone) and from the box I can upload MP3 tracks (limited to 300KB though) as my ringtones. I figure this is something I should be pleased considering I'm seeing a lot of people not being able to upload ANY at all.
I know the Rogers store for ringtones charge up the wazoo at around 3.50/track (plus a .50 download fee). Sucks hardcore.

Re: Rogers MP3 Ringtone Lock Bypass and Workarounds
I am new here and a little electronic challenged, so I hope you will cut me a tiny bit of slack. I have a Motorzr and I want to put my own ringtone on it. I have read this thread and I downloaded free mp3 converter that Keyzman posted, I have it on my computer, but that is where I get stuck. Once I convert the song, where does it go and how do I get it on my phone?

Re: Rogers MP3 Ringtone Lock Bypass and Workarounds
Hey guys and girls,
I just got the new w760a from rogers and I was startled to find that I can't use my own ringtones on it. Here is the the skinny on the situation. Rogers is getting into a class action lawsuit supported by the phone manufacturers because the end user agreements don't include any information on the fact that the phones purchased by their "valued" customers are locked up, disabled, and not full featured units as the manufacturer intended them to be. It is not fine for any car dealer to sell a vehicle with the AC disabled only to get you to give them some extra cash when the days get hot and you want to enjoy your ride. This is exactly what is happening, and I agree because the phone I purchased was a w760a, not a locked up feature deprived unit that rogers made it out to be. If I knew what I was buying I would have just bought an unlocked unit on e-bay like the last one I had. Shame on you rogers, and we are all sorry for your trampled reputation SonyEricsson corporation. The phone is awesome... the service less so.
Valued rogers customer, Kris.

Re: Rogers MP3 Ringtone Lock Bypass and Workarounds
I agree, this is completly stupid that Rogers is doing that.
I am with Fido, and I just realized (after I bought the phone) that I can't set any mp3 or aac file as ringtone, it seems to be locked!
(even if I can put any mp3 file on the phone using nokia manager and that I can PLAY THEM on the phone... I just can't set them as ringtone... very studip!)
As you said, there is nothing anywhere that was telling me that I would need to pay to set a ringtone as I want. Reading the functionality of the phone on Fido web site and specification on Nokia web site makes you confident that it will work.
I moved from Telus to Fido... but now I am really disapointed by all the Canadian Wireless restrictions! There are not good wireless provider in Canada.

Re: Rogers MP3 Ringtone Lock Bypass and Workarounds
OK newbie here. I have had my Rogers Samsung A736 for over a week now and I am ready to throw it out the window.
I have concerted mps to mmf and wma with no luck. The mmf play on my phone, but the wma do not. I can download full mp3 songs and play them no problem. All I want to do is have a fun ringtone!
When I contacted Rogers I was told the reason ringtunes need to be purchased is because of copyright laws--ya right!!!
Can anyone help. I have downloaded a few "make your own ringtone" sites, but I am completely lost when I am on them and don't know where to start!

Re: Rogers MP3 Ringtone Lock Bypass and Workarounds
Hi,
For anyone with a Sony Ericsson W580i phone, this is how you put on your own custom ringtones:
1. Download the "Audacity" audio editing and recording application from Sorceforge. Use this to capture audio that plays through the sound card. If it doesn't work for you, your cheap integrated motherboard doesn't have sound monitoring hardware or you are on Vista which for some unknown reason, doesn't have sound monitoring software built into it like XP does. In those cases, just plug a stereo mini-plug (male)-to-(dual female) splitter into the output audio jack on the back of your Intel box (green) and plug your speakers into one side and a (male)-(male) stereo mini-plug cable from the other side into the input audio jack on the back of your Intel box (blue).
You then play music or other audio from a media player or play videos from Youtube and capture the audio to a stereo track inside Audacity (Adjusting the levels to eliminate clipping of course). Cut out the section(s) you want use as a Ringtone (max: 1 min) and save it to an MP3 file. (I clipped the beginning riff from "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" as one of my ringtones. Awesome!!!)
(Tip: You can make perfect sounding stereo MP3 files to use on your iPod using this software too. Youtube has every song on it!!! Just make sure you disable your Windows sounds so you don't ruin your songs with beeps and clicks... Mute the microphone too...)
2. Download the Sony DRM Packager app from the DRM tips page (Look below for the link) and open the MP3 file. Package the MP3 file by entering a start date (current date is fine) and entering a ending date (I use Jan 1st, 2015). The packaging process produces a .DM file.
3. Download and install the latest Sony Ericsson PC Suite application installer and install this software on your PC. (You may have to reboot...)
4. With your W580i turned on, connect it to your PC using the proprietary USB cable that came with your phone and on the phone, select PHONE MODE.
5. The PC Suite software should activate automatically and you'll want to open the File Manager. Run it manually if it fails to open automatically. When it opens, you'll see a phone icon. Double-click on that and you'll see two file folders.
6. Open a separate Windows explorer window and navigate to your new .DM file and drag it to a blank spot under the two file folder icons in the File Manager window.
7. Your phone will bleep and you will be asked what you want to do with this file. Select: USE AS RING TONE

Re: Rogers MP3 Ringtone Lock Bypass and Workarounds
Okay. This tutorial thingie is from Dalton---> (only for the Sony Ericsson 580i though)
"Step 1.
Download and install the Sony Ericsson Digital Rights Management Packager
Windows : My Account
Mac: My Account
Step 2.
Select a mp3 you would like to protect (use as a ringtone).
Step 3.
Run DRM Packager
Start->Programs-> Sony Ericsson-> DRM Packager-> DRM Packager
Go to File, add files and select the mp3 you would like to use.
Step 4. (Configuration)
Go to Options -> Configuration -> and select combined delivery and also uncheck
“ Place rights in separate folder” and click the little box with the … on it and place where you want them to go (ex. My Documents/My Music folder) click OK
A window will pop up saying “Before proceeding with the combined delivery…. “
Click OK. Use the following info to fill in the blanks.
Content ID: myCellPhone @ Blah.com
Enable right = checked
Check Start time checked and date set to (which ever today’s date is)
Check End time checked and date set to (which ever today’s date is but year 2015)
click OK
Step 5 Creating the dm file(s)
Click on your MP3 file to highlight it
Click on Create DRM content
Now you can send this file to your device , you will be able to set this mp3 as a ringtone.
Adding new file to your phone
1. Plug in your W580i or other cell phone. IMPORTANT: Choose Phone Mode
2. Go to START – ALL PROGRAMS – SONY ERICSSON – SONY ERICSSON PC SUITE.
3. Then go to your little phone icon by your clock (bottom right corner)
4. Right click on phone icon and scroll up to File Manager and click on it
5. MyPhoneExplorer. Will open, click on “Your phone” icon so Memory Stick and Phone Memory folders show.
6. Minimize that window so it takes up only half your screen. Then pull up the folder you put the “adjusted” MP3 file you wanted to use as a ringtone. Minimize that too to half the screen so you can see that window AND the MyPhoneExplorer window at the same time. High light the .DM file you made out of your MP3 and drag it to the MyPhoneExplorer and put it under the Memory Stick folder and the Phone Memory folder.
7. IMPORTANT: Do not go into memory stick or phone memory. It will take a bit of time to transfer. Check your phone. It will have a pop up saying you have transferred a music file, click yes to install it into the Music folder.
After that another pop up will come up asking you how to use it. In the list of options, choose "Ring tone" and you are done!
YOUR DONE!! Now enjoy your ringtone!!!"
It might take a bit long, but it's worth it . Other than the fact that when you want to listen to music from the option "Tracks", the ringtones are jumbled in there as well >_>;

Re: Rogers MP3 Ringtone Lock Bypass and Workarounds
I've never had it blocked by Rogers? Thats funny because I download ring tones from Ringtones.ca - Canada's Source for Ringtones and More! all the time and most of them are MP3. Is this only for new phones?

Re: Rogers MP3 Ringtone Lock Bypass and Workarounds
making someone pay for something they don`t want is EXTORSION
as for the SAMSUNG a886 on rogers I have tried almost every format and it does not work.
dm files are not supported this phone
I bought this phone because the main feature (to me) WAS MP3 RINGTONES
THEIR CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS USELESS BECAUSE THEY ARE LESS INFORMED THAN WE ARE.
anyone know if memory card supports mp3?
