Restoring Apps:
- Sign in with your Samsung or Google account, depending on the type of account used for the initial backup
- Go to the phone's "Settings" menu
- Swipe to "User and Backup" and go to "Accounts"
- Tap "Samsung" or "Google"
- Tap your "email address". It should be located at the top of the screen
- Tap "Sync all", and press "Back" to return to the "User and Backup" menu
- Tap "Backup and reset" and then mark / clear the check boxes next to "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore"
Restoring Contacts
Restoring Contacts from a Google or Samsung Account:
- Log in with your Samsung or Google account
- From the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Go to "Settings" and swipe to "User and Backup"
- Tap "Accounts" > "Samsung" or "Google" (choose the type of account that contains the backup)
- Tap your "email address" at the top of the screen
- Mark the check box next to "Sync Contacts" and tap "Sync now"
Restoring Contacts from the SD Card:
- Launch the "Contacts" application and go to the "Contacts" tab
- Press "Menu" and tap "Settings" > "Contacts"
- Tap "Import / Export" > "Import form SD Card"
- Choose an account, and load the desired VCF file
Restoring Media
Restoring Media Files from the Phone's Storage:
- Launch the "My Files" application
- Tap "All files" > "SD card"
- Press "Menu" and tap "Select"
- Mark the check boxes next to the files / folders you wish to restore
- Press "Menu" and tap "Move" > "Device storage"
- Go to the location where the files should be restored, and tap "Move here"
- Alternatively, tap "Create folder" if you wish to import the files in a different location
Restoring Media Files from a Windows PC:
- Establish a connection between the Samsung Galaxy Avant and your PC via USB
- Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
- Mark the check box next to "Media device (MTP)"
- Click "Open device to view files" on the computer
- Open a second Windows Explorer window, and navigate to where the media files are backed up on your computer
- Copy the files, and paste them in the desired directories located on the "Card" or "Phone" storage
- Lastly, click the "Mass storage device" icon located in the system tray, and safely disconnect your smartphone
Restoring Media Files from a Mac Computer:
- Connect the Avant to your Mac using the USB cable
- Drag the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
- Mark the "Media device" check box, and launch Kies on the Mac
- From Kies, click the "Back up / Restore" tab
- Click the "Restore" tab
- Select the "Music" and "Photo" check boxes. Alternatively, click "Select all items" to restore all media files
- After selecting the desired files, click "Restore"
- If necessary, follow any additional on-screen prompts, and once the transfer is done, safely disconnect your device from the Mac
