Cant Connect Phone to PC, Help Needed

Where would I look? I kno that if I go to control panel and modems it says COM4

How do I assign the cable to COM1 b/c I think that might do it.

Is the modem for COM4 that you are referring to the Samsung GPRS modem? To go to Device Manager. Run System in Control Panel. When System Properties open, under Hardware, you should find Device Manager. Click Device Manager button to open Device Manager. Look for the line that has some relation to either Samsung or data cable. That is the line for the data cable. It could be under Universal Serial Bus Controller. Make sure your phone is connected while checking.

Yeah Samsung GPRS modem...but anyways I tried it with my laptop and I got it to work.

i got that "!" when i attached the cable to my laptop. i ended up reinstalling the USB driver twice. and then, finally....i can use the file manager. i've been busting my brains for 2 days, trying to make it work....finally!!

ohh, as a result of reinstalling the usb driver, i cant connect to the internet. ahd to reinstall the modem's driver but that's okay...as long as my laptop can detect my phone, i'm happy. thanx again...

They need to make better software...seems like total trash to me.

Ok so maybe u can help me with my d600 aswell! i have tried everything so do u perhaps know whty it wont connect to my pc?

Does the cable and S/W come with the phone? Have you checked Device Manager and confirmed that the driver is installed properly? Did you setup PIMS properly to use the same COM as assigned to the cable? Have you tried another PC or laptop?

seems like everyone is having the same problem. must be something wrong with the cable.

js, i think the new phones are equipped with the cable and s/w....

snowy, here's what i did....like what js posted earlier :

1. connect the cable
2. open the device manager (control panel > system > hardware > device manager > universal serial bus controllers. u will see "!" or "?" symbol there. click on it. it will say something that shows the cable is unrecognizable (i forgot what it was)
3. click on reinstall s/w. browse for the USB driver from the PC Studio cd.

and i think u're all set. good luck!

i've resurrected this thread coz so many users have a somewhat similar problem...

How do i know which data cable i can use with my phone? I have a e640, and i bought a data cable from a local cell phone store they said was compatible. The cable says V200/V205 on it, and it fits and all, but i can't get it to connect to my computer. I have the PIMS and installed both the USB driver off samsung's website, and the USB to serial port that the cable came with. I guess i want to know if this is the wrong cable. Thanks
