any time i have roamed, i have gotten a message from verizon, asking me to dial 10 digits. can anyone tell me which other carriers sprint has roaming agreements with, in other words, i would like to know who lets sprint roam through their towers and who doesn't?

this is useful to me because verizon doesnt cover all the areas i travel through, and i need to know if i can roam through alltel, cingular, t-mobile etc. (not that sprint's coverage is poor bc i love them, but i always roam in rural parts of florida and georgia)

thanks to anyone who can help...

you won't roam on cingular and tmobile since they're gsm networks. just as i (w/cingular) won't roam on the networks in my rural hometown.

so does anyone know about alltel? what are they using these days?

and who is still using the ancient tdma towers, i know they are still around because all the prepaid phones in the convenience stores are tdma...

ok, i've had sprint for a little over a month now, and here is where i get to answer my own question. i went out of town this weekend, and whether i was on PCS or digital roaming, i had coverage everywhere i went.

every time i went to roaming along the trip, i would dial a 7 digit number to get a network id. in northeast florida, outside of the jacksonville area, when i roamed it was on verizon. but throughout south and southwest georgia, my roaming coverage was through alltel.

mind you, sprint had solid pcs coverage more than half the trip and especially in populated areas (ever been to rural sw georgia? ), but it's nice to know they have me covered elsewhere via roaming agreements with these other providers. now that i know sprint goes everywhere i go, i'm

    cool brad.

it's always a plus when you're happy with your carrier's coverage!

i was pleasantly surprised over the holiday with mine (cingular). for some unknown reason, i got reception 2 minutes from my parents' house. i usually get none there, but it was enough that we could check our messages and reply to them.

it'll probably never happen again, but it was cool.

That's not entirely correct. Sprint can and does roam on some Cingular AMPS networks.

Alltel uses CDMA and they are a roaming partner of Sprint's in a few markets.
