So, how does one prove to Orange that you are over 18 and you can turn
    off Safeguard?

Frustratingly, I stated that I wanted it turned off when I registered my
PAYG SIM yesterday, but they appear not to have done that bit.

When you call 450 as instructed, it tells you that you can do it on-line
on the orange website, on the WAP site, or hold to speak to an operator.
If you hold to speak to an operator, you are told that the office is
closed. If you visit the web site or WAP site, you are told to call 450.
    Great

One of two ways. They normally ask for a credit card to prove you are over
18, or they ask you to go with ID to the orange shop. It can take up to 24
hours if they said it has been done to actually work. Clear cache etc ... I
had to go in with my details twice before they turned mine off. Still the
man in the shop insisted that he saw my dob on my passport. He couldn't take
my word for it that I was over 18. I look nearly 60 lol. Might be quicker
going in store on Monday, or else if you ring now you my get through before
then but I wouldn't count on it.

By doing the credit card verification, or by going into an Orange Shop
with some photographic ID e.g. passport or Driving Licence, and whilst
in the shop you dial 450 and ask for the age thing to be removed,
stating that you are in an Orange Shop. At that point you will be asked
to hand your phone to one of the shop staff who will verbally confirm
    that ID has been seen.

    <Sigh>

Frustratingly, having checked my contract accounts, they all have it
switched off, it's only the new PAYG SIM that I've bought to use in my
    datacard that's got it on.

Ah well, a 26 minute call to OCS (24 of which were entering numbers or
on call) and they claim to have done it; I just need to wait for the 4
    text messages...
