Has anyone trawled the market recently for operators offering
inbound-SMS-to-Server services?
I am looking for an affordable way to allow my customers to change a
database entry by sending a Yes or No message from their mobile.
I was expecting dedicated short-code options to be very expensive, but I
was surprised that even with a full-length number, the standing charges
for services that I have found so far are always several hundred pounds pa.
I've tracked down one lower-cost option (www.fabit.com): £60+vat pa for
a UK landline geographic number, with messages delivered as email or to
a script on a web-page. That pricing looks attractive; the only obvious
snag is that asking customers to send an SMS to a landline number is not
ideal - for the typical user it will seem slightly counter-intuitive.
Has anyone found any operators offering a modestly-priced inbound SMS
service using a (full-length) UK mobile number? Has anyone experience of
fabit?
