Could someone check this out for me please? I have someone in the US trying
to text and call my Vodafone PAYG number with no success. If my number was
    01234 123123 she has to dial 011 44 1234 123123... is this correct?

    Calling international numbers.

Each country has its own international dialling code when dialling abroad.
For example North America uses 011 and European countries use 00. When
dialling Europe from North America , use the number format of 011 + Country
code + number. Most European countries also use a prefix number (usually 0)
when dialling nationally, for example if you find a number listed as (44)
    (0) 123 456 7890, omit the prefix (0) as this is only used when dialling
    nationally.
When calling North America from Europe follow the number format of 00 +
    Country code (1) + State/City code + number, for example Florida: 00 1 407
    123 4567.

She could also just dial +441234123123. You get the + by holding 0 a bit
    longer.

    That's correct.

If she's using a US mobile phone for this it might be worth pointing
out that some companies there may not permit international calls
by default (I think Verizon is one). She may need to call her
company's customer service to get the feature added.

    <snip>

If she is using a mobile then the format should be +447xxx xxxxxx to a
standard UK mobile number for SMS/calls, however the standard format
you've quoted should also work for calls.

Does her cell provider allow direct dial international calls?

If I remember rightly SMS to and from the US is a hit and miss affair.

That assumes it is a GSM mobile, neither CDMA mobile phones nor
landlines have a '+'. The '011' format should work in all
    cases.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Have passed them over the pond to see if we
can make any progress. Will call Voda tomorrow just in case i blocked
    international calls or something silly.

    Cheers..
