I downloaded moto phone tools 2.16 and have my v300 connected to my comp via a
nextel usb data cable which doesn't list v300 compatability, but fits the phone
fine and my pc reads the device fine. Problem is, when I run phone tools it
can't find my phone and I can't seem to install a driver for it either. I
downloaded the moto usb modem driver, and ran it, but still no luck. The usb
driver is a program file and windows settings wants an .inf file. I'm
confused. Could it be the cable, even though it fits the phone and my pc
acknowledges the v300? thanks

Re: Moto phone tools won't read my V300?
forgot to add... windows reads the phone as a new device and prompts me to
select a driver. I click on the usb motorola driver and click ok. It says the
device isn't exactly compatible with the driver but I click ok anyways and it
completes the installation and prompts tro restart computer, which I do and
then when it restarts windows reads it as a new device again and I start all
over. When I start mobile phone tools, it says connect phone so I connect it to
the usb cable and windows just pops up with the new hardware window again, but
phone tools can't read the phone. anyone have any suggestions for me?

Re: Moto phone tools won't read my V300?
Maybe you have wrong driver installed. Reads like that.
Go to Device manager, remove the driver.
Restart MPT without the phone plugged in.
When MPT tells you to plug in the phone, then plug it in. MPT should find
the phone within a few minutes and install add drivers automatically.
A V300 should pop up on your PC screen.
If this doesn't work, it may be an incompatible data cable. The cables for
V120, V60, T720, T730 all work with the new Vseries, not sure about Nextel
cables

thanks i'll try. the cable says it's compatible with all models starting in i,
so it might be the cable. If it was the wrong cable though, why would it fit
the phone and windows read it "V300"?

Re: Moto phone tools won't read my V300?
I also noticed that it says "make sure your phone isn't locked" when starting
moto phone tools. How do I unlock my phone? I dloaded moto service software and
it won't read the phone either. It seems windows is the only program to
acknowledge the phone, and it does as a "v300".

ok, basically i kinda had the same problem this is wat you need to do....
load up phone tools, wait till it says it hasnt detected your phone
then take the cable out of ur fone, and plug it back in where it prompts you to, a clock should appear, spinning like mad.... when then disappears it will ask you to select your phone/modem, from a list, select the motorola modem option, then click next, it should run a diagnostic test to see the fones status, if it passes that then your sorted, if not go back and try selecting the modems from the list (should only be 3-4), untill one setting works!
hope that helps!

See,... I don't get a list of phones? The clock just stops spinning and a basic
looking phone pops up, as if it has given up searching. I click setup and "add
phone" but it says "no devices read". My phone is still locked with Tmobile,
and I was guessing that was the problem. I just payed $50 for an online code to
unlock it which I haven't recieved yet. This is really frustrating! I have
concluded (maybe falsely) that the cable is not the issue because my computer
reads the phone "V300", it fits the phone, and when I plug it into the phone
when MPT promps me, the clock starts up, so it is definitely communicating with
my pc.
