I have an interesting problem with my wifes new V600 on Orange here in the UK.
She has set up her contacts and assigned contacts into the categories. Each
category has it's own ringtone assigned, these are MP3s which have been loaded
onto the phone via bluetooth.
The problem is that the incoming SMS alert changes to the incoming call ringtone
for the contact sending the message. This is despite it being specified in the
phones settings.
This is extremely annoying as a what should be a discreet alert becomes a full
on tune, and my wife ends up answering SMSs by putting her phone to her ear!!
Any help appreciated!

I had the same problem. Any application of an individual call tone is
applied when that person or group of people sends an SMS.
It seems to override the SMS vibrate setting and gives you an ear blast
instead.
I dont think there is any way around it, it's just how the phone works.
I am on O2 by the way, so it is not a network issue.
I went back to setting all alerts to Vibrate then ring, with SMS set for
vibrate only. That way you dont end up rushing to answeer ther phone when it
is just an SMS alert.
That suits me fine, as I dont really need to know who is calling before I
touch the phone (i.e by listening to the ring tone). I can see who is
calling from the external display anyway.
Besides that I like to change my ringtones from time to time as they get
boring, and I would never be able to remember which tones were which people
anyway.
Sorry, no solutions there but at least you know your phone is behaving 'as
it should' and is not broken.

This is a well known problem.
I've yet to find out if this is by design, or actually a firmware bug
though......

Re: V600 different tones for calls and SMS
Surely it CANNOT be by design can it? 1) That would be stupid! 2) The menus
indicate otherwise.
This bug is so annoying for us that the phone may well go back.
Would be interested to hear from anyone who knows if this is to be fixed in
later firmware?
