Agreed. Look at the ****ty rates "Professor" Troll Bell is raving
    about.

Best were 18 cents per 30 seconds plus 27 cents connection. (Unless I
    missed something better?)

I know Tel$tra have a big investment in equipment, etc., which has to be
recouped, blah blah blah, but they also have to remain semi competitive,
    at least.

At work we have 3 mobiles on B, $25-00 plan. 10 cents per 30 seconds
plus 10 cents connection fee. Haven't worked out yet if the $25-00 plan
includes $25-00 worth of calls; maybe someone can advise?

I will admit though that the Optarse network which B piggyback on
doesn't seem as good as Tel$tra, which we had before, and at times seems
    to be a bit flaky.

Also B wet their pants if the bill gets over $200-00, and send an sms
threatening to restrict your service unless you contact them
    "immediately".

Some **** about "unusual activity has been detected on your account".

Stern words with their sales rep. soon stopped that sort of rubbish from
    happening again

They weren't from Telstra. Telstra don't use indian call centres for
anything. In fact they spend big dollars advertising the fact that
they don't use any indian call centres. They even have a hotline for
people like you to report calls that come from Indian call centres
CLAIMING to be from Telstra. Perhaps you should call and report it.

I asked them specifically if they were from/representing Telstra, and
they gave me an unequivocal answer in the affirmative. Since I signed
up- or the electronic equivalent of that- to change my phone to Telstra,
I'll just wait and see what happens.

Don't just wait and see what happens. You've been the victim of a
scam. As I said, Telstra are currently spending big dollars
advertising the fact that there is a scam going around with people
claiming to be from Telstra, ringing from an Indian call centre, trying
to get customers to swap over to them. As you have been a victim of
this scam, you need to contact Telstra immediately on the hotline that
they've made available for this very reason. I hope this helps. Good
    luck with it.,

I have no idea if you're on the level or bull****ting me, but since you
spend most of your time in here bull****ting, the later is most likely
the case. But if you are on the level, you should be able to give me a
URL, or some references to support what you're saying. And if what you
say is true, and I have not signed up with Telstra, then who have I
    signed up with??

Indian call centre or an Australian call centre with an operator who
happenned to be one of the 10,000 Indian migrants who come to Australia
each year? We're a multicultural country remember...
