I see where I am getting mixed up here.

I don't call those true installed phones.
An installed phone is one that can't be removed from the vehicle
in any way, shape, or form.
The ones you are referring to are just portable phones plugged
into a fancy integrated car mount.

I thought (and others thought) you had an actual installed car phone.
That's why they was telling you to follow the antenna cable until you
found the transceiver portion of the cellular phone, which is separate from
the handset that would be by the front seat.

The 6000 uses a portable hand held phone.
Just take the phone out of the holster and take the battery pack off.
You will see various numbers on the back stickers on the phone.
One of them will be the ESN.
The ESN will be an 8 digit hexidecimal number.
(ie) it will only contain the digits 0123456789ABCDF
And it will be on a sticker with bar codes above each number.

Bingo....there's an antenna on the roof of the car but I believe that's for the
    nav system.

    >The 6000 uses a portable hand held phone.

    Correct

The trick is finding the RIGHT #

I wish YOU worked for verizon, AT&T, etc instead of these idiots I'm dealing
with. I did find an 8 digit hex # (no letter higher than F) inside the phone
which also matched with the # I got using the Motorola Bible programing through
the keys HOWEVER these morons can't seem to USE that number??? They guy at AT&T
wireless kept asking me for the MODEL #. Well I don't think its a Startec since
it doesn't flip, right? All the phone has inside next to "model #" is an 11
digit number! Do you know what type of Motorola phone it is? IE model?

The computers can usually determine the capabilities of the phone from the
    ESN.
ATT and verizon will only activate a phone that meets or exceeds minimum
    requirements.
The minimum requirements is that the phone is dual band, and digital
    capable.

    >They guy at AT&T wireless kept asking me for the MODEL #.

When they try to enter the ESN, it probably returns an error asking for a
    model confirmation.
Because, according to the ESN, the phone doesn't meet the minimum
    requirements.
If the phone isn't the one the system thinks it is (the system is having a
    bad day),
the person can manually force the activation through.

    >Well I don't think its a Startec since it doesn't flip, right?

There is many different models of startac phones.
And not all moto flip phones are startacs.

I will see what I can drag up.
The stamped model number doesn't match the phone model number on Motorola
    phones.
CPT6000 is probably the best reference for the model number, right now.

I can't really find any info specifically for that phone.
And the "10" for the model number doesn't give me any help.
