It was part of a package of tax increases passed to meet the county
budget. The county has a three billion dollar budget. Montgomery County
runs the schools, police department, fire department, libraries, parks,
roads, bus service, etc. Income and fuel taxes were also raised. The
wireless tax was an extension of a tax that was already in effect for
wired phone service to wireless tax, along with a raise of that tax.

Exactly, so why should we have to pay more taxes? What do they go for? You
should be more concerned about taxes. Everyone should.

I said nothing about his job, my point was that if you don't want to pay
the tax CXL service and be done with it. If the tax is such a hardship
why not email your local congressman instead of wasting your time on
usenet. I am not "special" I am a realist, taxes are a part of life,
yeah it sucks but what are you going to do?

I am in the northeast also and you get taxed to death here, trust me.
If my local township, county or what ever put a $2.00 tax on my cell
bill I would just pay it. What else is there to do? Got to a city
council meeting and waste your time arguing it? MB

Ah, so the tax doesn't apply to e-911 then. It's just a tax where funds go
    into a general fund.

Then I was correct. It is an abuse of taxation. If they have a budget
problem, an honest tax increase is fine, and that would include income
(including business) and property tax. If people are upset about the size
of an increase in these appropriate areas, then perhaps they don't want
those services that much. But to sneak it (I say this loosely as often
these details go unnoticed by the people that care ... or it is attached to
something else they have little choice but accept) onto a cellular phone
bill when this service has NOTHING to do with it puts an undue tax burden on
    an underrepresented population.

you are totally missing the point, there was a hearing that took place,
and it was in the papers, explaining the tax ( as advised by another
posting ) those are the ways to go about this sort of thing, through the
    proper channels,

    rep girl

    P.S
Caps is not always yelling, it is also used to stress a point!

There is nothing abusive about this tax. It was openly debated at county
council meetings with the opportunity for public comment. If the public had
raised a stink about it, you can be sure it would not have been implemented.
The election winning margins of most of the Montgomery County council
members is very small. They don't take actions that risk their re-election.

As I said before, there were articles in the local media about this. If you
care about your taxes, you pay attention and get involved. Anyone who
doesn't complain when the taxes are being debated doesn't have the right to
    complain about it later.....

Personally, I live in Montgomery county instead of one of the surrounding
counties BECAUSE the taxes are so high. I get plenty of services from the
county to compensate. If I call 911 about a kid doing minor vandalization
on my property, a cop shows up in 10 minutes, and within two hours, the punk
is under arrest. In DC or Prince George's county, I could be getting shot
at and unless I get hit with a bullet, the cops will never show up. Earlier
this week, I lost some tree limbs in a bad thunderstorm. I just dragged
them to the edge of the street, and the county came by with a chipper and
took care of them. These were not town trees and were not blocking the
public street, just limbs on my lawn next to the street. My tax dollars at
    work.
