I'm trying to install drivers for my DKU-5 cable so that I can use it
with my 7210 and my Win2000 box. After installing the drivers,
(Nokia_DKU-5_1_24.exe), the PC Suite installer fails to detect the
phone. After looking in System->Hard Ware->Device Manager I can see
the Nokia Driver ("Nokia 7210 Cable") installed under Modems, with a !
next to it because according to device status, "This device cannot
start. (Code 10)".
It is possible that I'm dealing with faulty hardware, but I'd like to
see if anyone has other suggestions. I don't have much experience with
hardware/drivers, so don't hold back on the patronising details :-)
I've plugged the cable into a USB port that was previously used by a
joystick. I unstalled the joystick driver just to be safe. I've tried
installing the driver with the cable plugged in, and also not plugged
in as is recommended.
According to the DKU-5 Quick Installation Guide, Win2000 should
automatically locate the drivers and software once you plug the cable
in. It did detect 'USB Device', but I had to select
Modems->Nokia->7210 cable manually, if that is at all interesting.
Any help or suggestions would be *greatly* appreciated!
Thanks

Re: DKU-5 Data Cable Installation Problem
If you bought the DKU-5 cable from Nokia they give full customer
support and will help you to resolve the issue.
There are some substandard DKU-5 cables. They use a Virtual Com driver
for USB to Serial using Prolific Drivers. When I spoke to Nokia
Support they said this kind of cables in the market doesn't work
properly with PC Suite. But it worked fine for me. The steps are
hereunder for XP-SP1 PRO:
-Install the DKU s/w came with the package. This installs the prolific
driver USB to COM. Then it automatically lead to the next step.
-Install Nokia Connectivity driver DKU-5 driver
-Reboot the system
-Connect DKU-5 to Phone and then plug to USB. It get recognized
automatically
and prolific driver installed automatically
-Download PC Suite for your model (For every model there is a
different .EXE. So there is a different ZIP for different models).
-Install the PC Suite S/w for your model. It will automatically detect
everything
-Then run PC Sync. It all should work fine.

Re: DKU-5 Data Cable Installation Problem
Thanks for your helpful reply, SK.
I am using a non-Nokia cable - I hadn't noticed! I followed your
procedure with no luck (Win2k), but found that MobiMB works fine with
the Prolofic + DKU-5 drivers. MobiMB + clone cable is still a much
cheaper solution than getting hold of a Nokia cable.
