    No. That's the point.

From what I know, a private number is private. You can not see it at all.

A fella came into our shop in CLane today, and honest to God, my number
flashed up on his 6310 even when I had it switched off on my handset.
Haven't a fecking clue how it's done but God was it impresive! He said it
was configured on the handset, and not the account or the SIM.

    I will investigate.

    Two possibilities.

You didn't set the Caller ID withheld properly. Or one or other of the
    networks was broken.

When you withhold Caller ID, it doesn't stop it from being sent - it's
still passed on by the network, but there's a flag set to tell the
terminating network not to pass it on to the end recipient. So say for
example, you were on Meteor and he was on Vodafone. It could either
network who is at fault for 'losing' the withheld flag. If there was no
direct interconnect between Meteor and Vodafone, so that calls were
routed via a third network (such as Eircom), then that third network may
    be the one at fault.
