It's politics, man. Some politician is probably running for office somewhere

I like it... the only new phones that will work on all the GSM bands there
are camera phones. And they're about to become illegal there.

Nokia, if you're watching, if you came up with a phone that was virtually
identical to the 6310i (inc CARK-91 support) and was quad band you'd have
a lot of customers who won't consider looking anywhere else.

    Seconded.

It's interesting that Nokia are touting the 6230 as the 6310i's replacement.
    Sorry, but no.

As best I can see, the differences are:

    - 6230 has built-in camera and video-player. Well, whoopie. Sorry, but I'm
not interested in this - although admittedly a colour screen would be nice.

    - Smaller dimensions. A matter of preference I guess, but I certainly
    wouldn't call the 6310i a brick.

    - Battery life (using the spec quoted on nokia.com) roughly about 2/3 that
    of the 6310i.

    - FM Radio & Music Player. I have a walkman for this.

    - MMC support. Ok, useful.

    - Wallpapers/screensavers. Oh yippie :-)

    - POP3 support. Ok, useful. Although I manage to do email over WAP pretty
    well already.

    - MMS and "SMS Chat". MMS Receive would be useful - see comments under
colour screen. SMS Chat? SMS Chat - couldn't care less.

    - Polyphonic Ringtones - Not especially interested.

    - Accessories. A fair bit of difference here. But...6230 has no Fax modem
    support.

    I'll keep my 6310i thanks :-)

the colour screen is definitively a plus, as with aplm devices once you
have switched to colour, b&w (well black an light blue...) is less
    attractive

the screen is 3 times greater also from 96*65 to 128*128

I've bought a 6320, JUST to keep up with my son (I NEED the GSM
contact due to a divorce). Ik think is a good replacement for my
formerly used 6310i. It is small, however ...

I guess this is one of those things that you easily live without, but once
you have it you do wonder how you managed without. As my original post said,
it would be a nice-to-have, but am not bothered without it.

    > the screen is 3 times greater also from 96*65 to 128*128

Ditto my comments above. My fiancee has just changed from an 8310 to 6100 -
I have to admit it's not a bad bit of kit, and the screen is nice. But
again, it doesn't bother me enough to want to change.

My 6310i does get a hammering - it'll average about 2 hours of calls on a
good day, and something in the region of 20 SMS, and possibly 30-45 minutes
(sometimes more) of WAP via GPRS. Bluetooth generally enabled only when
being used, and it'll last 4 days between charges although it tends to get
topped up in the car and in the evening - such that I try to keep the meter
    showing full all the time.

If "her" experience with the 8310's radio is anything to go by, it's worse
than useless unless you're stood still.

They appear to be touting the the 6820 "messaging device" in an advert
    I saw today.

The business section of the Observer (23rd May) has a large (two-
    thirds-ish of a page) advert which -- significantly -- pictures a 6310,
and has the promo line "upgrade your business".

The text talks about the advantages of the 6820, and the advert
finishes with "Nokia 6820 messaging device. Probably the easiest
upgrade decision your business ever made".
