I have a Sanyo 4900/cable/laptop setup that I use when RVing - works
perfectly. I live in a fringe reception area - get 2 bars max on the phone
at home. Anyhow I am thinking of upgrading to the Samsung VGA 1000 and
buying a data cable for it and probably selling my 4900 on eBay to recoup
some of the money. Question - based on my home reception - should I do
this? Question - is the Samsung a better phone compared to the Sanyo 4900?
Any input appreciated. DonnaB

Sell the 4900 to your significant other at a good price, and then you
can buy it back after about a month. Also it will make a great backup
phone.

<Also it will make a great backup
phone.> You are right, of course. But could anyone tell me if the Samsung
VGA 1000 has just as good reception as the Sanyo 4900 and also if it works
just as well with a laptop (I don't abuse this only use to check my email
when RVing). Thanks! DonnaB

I don't own a 1000, but when you get yours, I would like a report from
you about how you like it. Isn't there a trial period with it anyway,
when you can return it; that's what I was advised last Dec. when I got a
different phone. Which reminds me, when I bought a closeout 6400 in
July or whenever, the sales guy offered that info again, without me
asking.. Give it a try, and let us know.

Re: Sanyo 4900 vs Samsung VGA 1000
Samsung in the past has not had as good of reception as sanyo, i have
heard both ways on the 1000, but personally i can't tell a difference.
I have heard that if you use the camera, the 1000 will need an extended
battery (comes with it at costco).
I read earlier today that data cables are not working with the 1000, but
have not tried it.
