What would you do if you were in control of america. Specifically what would you do about the war on terrorism. If you could take over right now, what would you change, and how would you make things different, and What do you think Bush is doing wrong?

I have a few different resolutions, for starters, we need to ask the Iraqies (innocent citizens) what THEY want us to do. We need assurance that they want our help. I know not all of them are happy that we're there, but I know that some of them love the help, but I think we should have them make it clear on what they want from us. I also think we need to make sure security is at the max. We need to assure them that we want peace, but we will not sit back and let these terrorists fly planes into our buildings without bringing on a war. We need to strengthen their government, and military so they can take care of themselves, and so we can get out of there. Bush is doing a good job at becoming America's own enemy. Wire taps? That's going too far. I think that is seriously unnecessary, he's just stiring things up within ourselves. I've always been with Bush though, since his first election I was on his side, but I'm now seeing some mistakes that he's making. The most important thing, I think, is asking them what they want us to do. We can't just go over there and do what we want.

Now I'm not the smartest person when it comes to politics and stuff. I'm only 15, but what I typed above, that's coming from what I've heard, and seen. What do you guys think?

first of all, what ISNT bush doing right?? If i took over, i would do ALOT more for the elderly and children and people with no money. People will NOT be sleeping on the streets. I would NOT be taking care of other countries as my country suffers from horrible disasters such as katrina, and we let them suffer like that for DAYS!!!!! I would say f the people with money, republicans... People who NEED help are the ones who have NOTHING, and i would MAKE SURE EVERYONE was entitled to welfare of some sort, as well as food stamps, id build ALOT more shelters, out of MY OWN money.. and medicines/health insurance and such, would also be cheaper and if poor, it would be free/paid for... i would make SO many changes, theres more, but ill leave it at that, those are the most important ones

as for the war, i think it was nessasary...remeber 911.. thats all i have to say..
i am ALL about talking things out and NO violence but.. 911 was HORRIBLE, TRAGIC and just WRONG...so, i think war was nessasary in this case

i've learned the hard way about talking politics with others, but this thread has me feeling compelled to do so...

on foreign policy, i think what our country is lacking is a genuine negotiator. our relations with other countries are ridiculous. we're seen as arrogant and meddling. it is no wonder why we are hated so much by middle eastern countries. i am not justifying 9/11, but eventually after poking everyone with a stick for so long, we were bound to get hit back.

i remember the days when we were huge enemies with the soviet union. when i became old enough to learn what was really at risk there, i was more scared than i'd ever been to this day. the thought of a nuclear war to end all is terrifying. yet somehow without sending countless troops to unsafe conditions, we were able to come to an agreement with our enemy and today live without that fear. i think it's pretty obvious that if we could recognize our current problems, we could prevent future situations like the one we're currently in.

but our actions are a poor reflection of our affairs at home. how can we have the brass to force democracy onto a group when our fundamental democratic process of voting is so controversial. it's not about what's best, it's about party affiliation and family loyalties. our last two elections were complete jokes and made us a laughing stock. and how sad is it when iraq gets voter turnout equal to ours, if not better?

what would i do different? well, i'm not the guy we need. we need someone who is actually going to listen, think, and solve. but unfortunately, we'll never get that. the world is changing around us, yet we continue to support this bi-partisan system, and feed the constant bickering between parties. we'll never get anywhere with this system.

i've abandoned my party affiliations. i'm voting totally now on what the candidate feels, how he/she handles himself, and how he/she can analyze our situations and come up with an informed decision which he/she feels will benefit all citizens.

isn't that what we're voting for?

--sorry for the rant, but opinions were asked for, and i feel this way.

i agree, i dont like talking politics either cause it can cause a huge debate, and then arguements... i am actually TERRIFIED of nuclear wars myself, or ANY kind of war but what they did on 911 was UNFORGIVEABLE! =(
TOO many innocent people died.. mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, grandparents, best friends, boyfriends, girlfriends etc... those people were somebody or some people's, someone. i dont promote the idea of war and i defiantely dont like it..but i definately think the iraq war was nessasary!! hopefully it ends soon though and that will be it for wars...

see, this is why i avoid political discussions. please don't take offense.

considering that the people responsible for 9/11 were NOT iraqi, is the iraq war (which we haven't declared) necessary?

i understand hussein was pretty horrible, but we kinda hazed over bin laden and went to the next closest thing.

I was always told that if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. I can not pretend that I live by this rule, however, I will abide by it in this instance.

Suffice it to say, there have been a lot of political mis-steps made in the intervening years since 9/11. Many questions have to be asked. Should we be at war with Iraq? In truth, are we at war with Iraq, or the insurgency? It seems to me that by and large, the Iraqi people want us there, it is a small but well armed and determined group of insurgents who continue to fight and kill not only American Soldiers, but also those Iraqis who support efforts toward democracy. Should we continue to send our young men and women to the Middle East to fight for a cause that the American People suddenly claim not to support, yet they re-elected the man responsible for starting it?

I do not claim to have all the the answers, nor do I suspect that anyone on this forum has the answers, because if you did, you probably wouldn't have time to post them here!

    hmmm....

you're right. we don't have the answers. why? because as americans, we're very arrogant and ethnocentric, which prevents us from learning and understanding other cultures, especially the islamic religion and lifestyle associated. so therefore, we cannot understand why the middle eastern countries despise us and our ways. not to mention why a 'small insurgent group' would want us to quit peeing in their pool.

Nickel5, you just hit the nail square on it's pointy little head.

This country was founded on "manifest destiny", "white man's burden", or whatever the %*@$ you want to call it. We, as a national doctrine, feel that it is our responsibility to force our will and ways on other... "less fortunate" nations. All this despite the fact that we are by far the youngest nation in the world. Middle Eastern countries were developed, operating and doing what they do long before our ancestors were even living in the "dark". What could possibly give us the right to go in and change what has obviously worked for over a millenia?

Now, that having been said, these Middle Eastern countries have been misrepresented by some small factions within them. The group known as Al-Qaeda claim to represent Islam, yet everything they have done is counter to Islam. The truth is, they are acting like Crusades era Christians; "destroy all who oppose or are different from us!" Because they don't like the "decadent American way", they kill innocent people in the most cowardly ways.

Please do not get me wrong, I support our Troops who are in harm's way. I strongly support the efforts to bring the perpetrators of the 9/11 tragedy to justice. However, I do not support our President's misguided attempts to bring democracy to a country that has been run without it for so many centuries. It is not our responsibility, we were never asked to do so, and we should not be doing so.

The question that started this thread was "What would YOU do if YOU were in control?" Well, to start with, I would bring our men and women of the Armed Forces back home to stay. I would then use them to bolster our homeland defenses and I would begin to address long ignored domestic issues. We are spending more money on Iraq than we are on New Orleans. Does this make sense to anyone else out there?

    That is my .02 worth!

    paul,

very eloquently stated. i share 99% of these views with you. my only difference of opinion is the al-quaeda type factions. you stated their objective as being a 'crusades' type venture, and i see it more as retaliation for our acts of meddling. not in the sense that i believe the actions of our brave troops are meddling, but rather as you stated, they have lived their lifestyle longer than we have, so any disruption of their lives is seen as just that.

so to answer the original question, i'd like to start a campaign for paul and i for prez!
