I take it your changin an mp3 extension? That wont work, coz it gets treated as a midi, when its an mp3.

the extension changing trick works on my phone but i understand that some service providers have put blocks on certain file types, and then it depends on whether or not the phone manufacturer put mp3 codecs on the phone in the first place. if a phone won't play mp3 but you know it's capable of realtones, there are other filetypes you can try. i dont know much about these 'other filetypes' because i got lucky and picked a phone that plays my mp3 files (after i change the .mp3 to .qcp, that is) so my apologies on not being able to tell more about that.
and as far as how i change my extensions, i already had my settings in XP set to show the file types, did that a long time ago for some reason i can't remember, but also i downloaded a program from download.com one time that could change the extension of multiple files or entire folders all at once. (be careful on download.com that you dont get spyware and adware from the free stuff.) so btw the qcp i think is only for sprint phones but i could be wrong, and some people have said their phone will play 8bit mono wav files for ringers. you can do that with Wavepad or try the ext. changing trick with .wav
anyway hope this helps and that i didnt skim through
and repeat something that was already saidLast edited by Brad729; 01-09-2006 at 08:05 PM.

save a voice memo on your phone and email it from your phone to your computer, and that will tell you what format the voice memo is in, and then you *should* be able to make a ringtone the same format and send it back (as long as you have all this downloading and uploading included in your plan or your paying more $$$ than its worth sometimes)
all of this is assuming your phone will let you use voice memo as a ringtone.

Ah rite, you're talkin about the actual extension on your phone, this thread dies a long time ago, forgot what it was about!
Anyway, when ya find out what extention ya need, i can modify my program (http://cellphoneforums.net/t147907.html), to batch change all the extensions for ya.
