change enter key to line return on Droid

a lot of times when i'm trying to back out a typo of some sort in a text message, i accidently hit the enter button. this will send the incomplete message with a typo in it. is it possible to change the function of the enter button to just act as a return button?

edited to add that it's a droid phone. that might be helpful info.

unfortunately there is no way to change this without using a different keyboard application that works with the hardware keyboard.
