I live in northern california, but I work in Asia a lot. My girlfriend is from Korea, but maybe will go to school in San Jose.
I am trying to choose a provider with the best plan for me.
-I will call asia from the US and receive calls from Asia often.
-I will send text messages to Asia, and receive many.
-I don't make many local calls or calls within the US, so huge amounts of US minutes isn't appealing.
Reception shouldn't be an issue in San Jose. Silicon Valley providers usually have enough towers.
Currently I have Verizon prepaid since I am out of the US a lot I don't have to worry about monthly fees. But its so expensive to use it's crazy. 30 cents a minute to call or receive during the day. Even to check voicemail!
Any advice guys??

why dont you look into a satilite phone I hear you can go anywere in the world with them? my second suggestion is why dont you buy another pre-paid phone in the country you want to visit ? so if your in the us you use the one you have ,when your in china your calls will be local?
