I keep getting error messages saying: "Telephony interface cannot successfully start" when starting up MPT using a USB cable. After several error messages, MPT freezes at the Application Startup window.

I have the correct USB cable, MPT 4.0.4b, the V3c driver shows up in Device Manager, and I have followed the install instructions. Also, the phone does charge.

Any ideas on what to try next?

I have heard about this same issue from a number of people who have the V3c. I am wondering if the V3c will even work with MPT? I am wondering if Verizon has put a block on it. I've even heard that you cannot upload any MP3s not purchased directly from Verizon to the phone.

The first thing you need to do is check the software version on your phone. If you have the original release of the V3c, with the version .02 software, you can connect the phone to your PC using USB cable and MPT. However, if you have a newer V3c, running .03 software, you are out of luck... as far as I know.

I am one of the fortunate few... I bought my V3c the day they came out (and paid a lot more for it...). But, I am able to upload MP3's and wallpapers to my phone with no problems.

Re: MPT and VZW v3c problem

Thanks for your reply's. I was able to at least get my phone recognized by my computer and working w/ MPT by the following:

"Go to your control panel, d-click Administrative tools, d-click Services. d-click Telephony. Change startup to Automatic, click apply, then click the start button, then OK."

Thanks to DJester for the help.
