Best is very vague....Windows is definitely the best if you are just beginning, and Linux is definitely the best for tinkerers...but being a tinkerer, I voted for my local penguin....go Tux!

Windows XP is the best Windows... and the most widely supported OS... so for most ppl it is the best choice.
Linux is beautiful to a tech who understands what's going on behind the screen!
Windows Millenium is the best non-NT Windows ever... far better than Windows 98 or 98SE... I never had a problem with WinME and I think all the people that did were basically not too bright... probably trying to use Win2K drivers or something... I had far more success with WinME over 98SE and everyone I know has too. Don't know why everyone thinks it's so "trendy" to bag WinME!?!?

for a desktop or laptop I think XP is the best for it's auto updating of drivers, wireless support, and the auto restore points it creates when new drivers and some programs are installed... saved my a** a few times.. for a server tho nothing beats linux if you can configure it
