    Re: 911 Voice Dial

Another issue with the 7400 is that once you put it into voice mode
accidentally, it will prompt for a command up to three times over a period
of about 30 seconds. There is no "ABORT" command. It is adamant about
performing a command that it understands. If it picks up background
conversation, it will usually attempt to dial someone from the address book
That can be quite embarrassing. Why couldn't they have added an "ABORT"
command? If I designed user interfaces with these types of deficiencies, I
would have been fired long ago. Actually this type of poor design would
never make it past our design review process.

This isn't something I've looked at for a very long time, but I *think*
Sprint made a conscious choice NOT to allow voice dialing of 911.

Yes, Samsung's have awesome voice dialing capabilities. And yet they
still won't dial 911 by voice function.

I think. And if I'm right, that was Sprint's choice. But I can't
    recall why.

Have you ever tried hitting the disconnect button? That seems to abort
on every phone I've ever tried, although I can't say I've tried that
    one.

Pressing disconnect? Wow, that's gotta be a the single worst design
I've heard of (and I've helped high school students program)

I also have the MM7400. I'll have to agree with Mij, in that the
voice command interface on this phone needs help. Perhaps these
things have been fixed in some of the new Sanyo phones, in which
Sprint has disabled the modem function...

Of all the things to disable, why would they disable the modem?

    *sigh*

Not so easy if you're driving in heavy traffic and emotionally upset
by just having witnessed a bad accident.

Well, most likely, because Sprint doesn't want us tethering our phones
to our laptops. Heaven forbid that we put Vision to productive use.
On the other hand, Sprint now sells data plans for folks who want to
tether their phones, so who knows what they are thinking...

Has anybody figured out if Sprint enables the modem feature in the new
Sanyo phones if you buy one of those tethering data plans???

I would have simply used the keypad if voice dial didn't work the first
time and not even give it anymore thought. Just chalk it up to
background noise. But to toss the phone? Kind of extreme, ain't it?

I design user interfaces for a living, so I am very critical of poor design.

LOL...then you can appreciate the poor design of some irregularly shaped
keys on keypads when it comes to text messaging.
