I have found that utilizing the facilities while the lid is down is a really bad idea, even if I dont realize the lid is down. That is why it is easier to go outside. That bear has it good an all the way down to the floor water feature. I am my own "travelling water feature"

This is like someone cheering for you every time you go to the bathroom

I think it should be down because you never know when you have to go the the bathroom in the middle of the night and someone leaves the seat up.. and you don't turn the light on and fall right in. That always sucks. And sometimes you even get stuck! and thats just embarrising.

lol...but it's ok for a guy to have to stumble around in the dark and put it up?

No comment on getting stuck, because I'm a gentleman and like that fact that my face is in front of me head, and would like to keep it that way!!

Re: Toilet Seat up or Down ?
My vote is seat and lid down for the following reasons:
1)It really is the most equitable solution.
2)The inside of a tiolet is not particulary aesthetically pleasing.
3)Stuff can't fall into it.
4)Animals and very small children can't get into it.
If my guy wanted to have a urinal installed, the compromise would be maid service.
Alot of men sit down to tinkle which reduces the errant sprinkle...thank you very much. Actaully, my dream water closet would be one that had a drain in center of the floor and a high pressure hose system, like the self-serve carwash for easy cleaning of the entire room, but maid service will do instead.
LOL...overheard kids one day...girl says to boy with smug satisfaction: girls can have babies, boys can't. Boy retorts with defensive posture and tone: boys can pee standing up, girls can't. I couldn't help but to add my two cents at this point and responded: Girls can pee standing up...it ain't pretty, but we CAN do it.
And while we are talking about the commode, how about the toilet paper debate: hanging over the top or under and against the wall? Personally, I don't give a rip. My only concern is that it's available, clean, dry, with/in reasonable reach and if in danger of running out, a spare roll nearby. LOL...my nephew took the end and put it in the toilet. After our subconcious minds realized that the toilet had been flushed over and over and over, we decided to investigate. He had been amusing himself by watching the tp unroll at each flush.
For a short time we had 5 people in one house with one bathroom. One person was a bit of a throne hog. I kept a coffee can with a lid in the basement for emergencies for us ladies. I found that also a practical solution when out on a boat with men. At times it's too cool for just one's swim suit. Consequently I find sun dresses/flowing skirts to be better than shorts/jeans in that situation.
One last practical piece of advice:
My home was a kid haven. When my niece or the girls that hung around got to a certain age, I took them by the hand to the rest room. I kept certain "supplies" in a decorative basket with a hinged lid. I lifted the lid and said, if you ever find yourself in need, you know where to look...no need to ask permission. I could tell by the look on their faces that this was a welcome approach to a potentially embarrassing situation.
Smiles.

Re: Toilet Seat up or Down ?
What is funny is that me and my ex husband always fought about this. I wanted the seat down and he could never remember.
Picture it middle of the night. Tired and rubbing my eyes as I walked to the bathroom. Turn around and get ready to sit down and bam! I was literally in the tiolet. Now, I was not expecting it so my legs came out from under me and I was kind of glued in.
I weighed 98 pounds then. I tried to get out by myself. But, I was suctioned in. So, instead, mortified I called for my ex husband to pull me out of the toilet. Needless to say, I now weigh 120 and 12 years older. My hips are wider thanks to my daughter. And I learned to shut my mouth and the lid.
Needless to say our relationship suffered the same fate later.

Oh, yeah, I prefer the toilet sit up. I like to know what is under lid before I sit. I just wish aim was better!

Re: Toilet Seat up or Down ?
Funny, but I raised a son, who wasn't too concerned about "aim" until I put him in charge of cleaning the toilets daily..first time I made him do it like he was in basic training. Happy to report, that his aim improved markedly. His future wife will thank me for it. LOL. btw..I taught him how to cook and do laundry too.
