    Re: Why is it?

Some of the other forums I go to have deleted threads similar to this one... I'm not crazy about debating politics in a cell phone forum, so I'll keep my opinions to myself. While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, let's try to not go making any political statements that are going to offend other members with opposing points of view. Thanks everyone!

I hope you'll let us disagree in a respectful manner to one another. Name calling is lame, but disagreeing on politics doesn't need to be dirty.

    Re: Why is it?

I don't think that Bush provided these stories/events to the press to run with so that we, the public, would be distracted while he did some fancy maneuvering.

It's not getting coverage, and he's not being put on the spot about any of his decisions that are unconstitutional or didn't work out. I'm not blaming just President Bush, I'm also blaming a large part of the government. They're just as responsible. If it were up to me, we'd flush out the system, drop the pay on being a member of congress, and start fresh.
I want to add on to this with examples, and maybe you'll see where I'm coming from. Bush has given himself power to impose military authority, suspend habeas corpus, and let the military police the US whenever he wants without approval from congress. Shortly after the PATRIOT Act was passed, I read about two guys that arranged a gay pride parade and were arrested for "supporting terrorism." It terrifies me that people can be arrested now without reason and held as long as the government wants to hold them. These are the kinds of things that are happening in the name of national security, and the press hasn't touched on it. I guess I should say that they haven't touched on it enough. If these things had happened during Vietnam, the president would have been skewered by the press and the public.

EDIT: And one other thing. The whole social security issue was a huge topic during the 2004 election, and what's happened to it? The plan that Bush was pushing didn't pass, so he just rolled over on the issue and didn't do anything about it. Once again, there is no press or public pressure to get this issue taken care of because everything is so focused on the "terrorist threat."

    Re: Why is it?

I could come up with a lot of pictures of racist, bigoted pieces of crap from the US too if you'd like. On the other hand, I can understand these people with their "freedom go to hell" slogans. There are people that never wanted the US in Iraq to begin with. We haven't created freedom over there. We are forcing people to use and accept our system. Iraqi citizens are getting more and more violent because they're tired of being occupied by the United States. So to say, "freedom go to hell"...that could be interpreted as, "let us run our own damn country," which makes perfect sense to me.

    Re: Why is it?

You bring up a good point. I say lets bring all of our military home and put them at all of our borders nobody comes in unless they apply for citezenship on the spot. If a country has a problem with another let them take care of it themselves and we set back and watch. Problem solved and we dont get accused of pushing our ways on anyone.

I know I know now im being a smart a$$ but people need to make up their minds do they want our help or not.

    Re: Why is it?

They never said they wanted our help in the first place. We just decided that we should invade them.

The immigration issue is a whole different beast with a lot of grey areas.

    Re: Why is it?

thers no grey area except around our borders. what about the rest of what i said? Should we start taking care of our own and let the rest of the world fend for themselves.

    Re: Why is it?

The quick answer would be yes. We have a lot of domestic problems to deal with before we should start mucking about in other countries' business. I'd love to see what would happen if we stopped funding the war in Iraq for one day and used that money for education. Or AIDS. Or funding health insurance companies so we could get cheaper health insurance. Or any other number of things that would benefit greatly from all of this money that we seem to have laying around.

If you want to get into immigration, make a new thread. There are a couple of variables that make me undecided on the subject. Either way is ugly.
